The present invention relates to a cloth treating apparatus and a method for controlling the same. The cloth treating apparatus includes a main cabinet having a first housing space for housing cloth therein and a water spray unit for supplying steam to the first housing space, at least one supplementary cabinet having a second housing space for housing the cloth therein, and a control unit for controlling the water supply unit to supply the steam to the first housing space or the second housing space, selectively, wherein the main cabinet and the supplementary cabinet are installed adjacent to, or spaced from, each other.
