There are provided various embodiments of medical instruments to perform knee surgery. In one embodiment a finned platform for mounting a cutting block is provided. The finned platform can be used on either a femur or tibia to allow for the proper cuts when performing a knee surgery. In another embodiment, a tibial trial is shown having a fin. The fin is useful to reinforce the bone to reduce the risk of fracture during bone preparation. In another embodiment, a reamer is provided having a plurality of cutting flutes. It may be desirable to utilize a guide with the reamer to allow the reamer to cut a noncircular portion of the tibial bone. In yet another embodiment, a plurality of fixation pegs are provided on the tibial implant to allow for easy removal of such implant if a revision surgery becomes necessary.

What is claimed is: 1. An orthopedic apparatus, comprising: a platform including a head having an enlarged substantially planar upper support surface, a shaft projecting axially from said head, and a fin extending laterally from said shaft and configured for gripping a bone segment; and a cutting block including a cutting guide sized to receive a cutting instrument, said cutting block supported by said platform with said cutting block positioned atop said substantially planar upper support surface of said head, said cutting guide extending from an upper surface to a lower surface of said cutting block, wherein said lower surface of said cutting block is contiguous with said substantially planar upper support surface of said head of said platform. 2. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said fin comprises a thread extending about said shaft. 3. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said fin comprises at least one rib extending longitudinally along a length of said shaft. 4. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said platform is formed of a resorbable material. 5. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said fin comprises a thread having a large surface to adequately engage a relatively soft, spongy portion of the bone segment. 6. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said cutting block is removable from said platform, and wherein said platform is permanently maintained in the bone segment and is configured to support an orthopedic knee implant. 7. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a cutting instrument including a cutting blade engaged with said cutting guide and configured to cut the bone segment. 8. An orthopedic apparatus, comprising: a platform including a head having an enlarged substantially planar upper support surface, a shaft projecting axially from said head, and a fin extending laterally from said shaft and configured for gripping a bone segment; and a cutting block including a cutting guide portion sized to receive a cutting instrument, said cutting block supported by said platform with said cutting block positioned atop said substantially planar upper support surface of said head; wherein said platform includes a cannulated opening extending through said head and at least partially through said shaft; wherein said cutting block includes a lower surface and a spike extending from said lower surface, said spike positioned within said cannulated opening of said platform to thereby engage said cutting block to said platform to inhibit lateral movement of said cutting block relative to the bone segment; and wherein said lower surface of said cutting block is engaged with said substantially planar upper support surface of said head. 9. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said spike extends entirely through said platform and axially beyond a distal end of said shaft for engagement with the bone segment. 10. An orthopedic apparatus, comprising: a platform comprising: a head having a planar upper support surface; a shaft depending from the head; and a fin laterally extending from the shaft for gripping a bone segment such that upon insertion of the shaft and fin into a bone segment the planar upper support surface of the head will support a medical device; and a medical device engaged with and supported by the planar upper support surface of the head, wherein the medical device includes a cutting guide sized to receive a cutting instrument, the medical device positioned atop and engaged with the planar upper support surface of the head, the medical device having an upper surface, a lower surface and the cutting guide extending from the upper surface to the lower surface, wherein the lower surface of the medical device is contiguous with the planar upper support surface of the head of the platform. 11. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the fin is in the form of a continuous thread extending about the shaft. 12. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the fin is in the form of a plurality of ribs extending about the shaft. 13. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the fin is in the form of a plurality of longitudinally extending ribs extending along the shaft. 14. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the head and shaft define a cannulated opening that receives a spike extending from the lower surface of the medical device. 15. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the fin comprises a thread having a large surface to adequately engage a relatively soft, spongy portion of the bone segment. 16. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the platform is made of a metallic material. 17. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the platform is made of a polymeric material. 18. The orthopedic apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein the platform is made of a resorbable material.
