A wearable device assembly has a housing supporting a controller, display and indicator system thereon. The controller has at least one sensor wherein activity of a user wearing the device is detected. The controller selectively illuminates the indicator system to indicate a level of activity of the user.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: detecting, at a first device, that a second device is within a first threshold proximity, wherein the second device is configured to be worn by a user; in response to the detection, automatically receiving, at the first device, a first set of athletic activity data transmitted by the second device; determining, at a processor, a number of activity points earned by the user based on the received first set of athletic activity data; receiving user input indicating one or more activity time periods; categorizing, at the processor, the one or more activity time periods in accordance with at least a first category of activity time periods; and recommending a first athletic activity and a time period to perform the first athletic activity based, at least in part, on the number of activity points earned by the user and the first category of activity time periods. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein categorizing the activity time period further comprises receiving user input data assigning the activity time period to the first category of activity time periods. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first category of activity time periods comprises at least one of: a type of activity monitoring device, a location of an athletic activity, a type of athletic activity performed, an activity partner, and a predetermined time period. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: generating a set of athletic performance metrics for a portion of the received first set of athletic activity data corresponding to the first category of activity time periods. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first category of activity time periods includes one or more sub-categories of activity time periods. 6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising: generating a set of athletic performance metrics for a portion of the received first set of athletic activity data corresponding to the one or more sub-categories of activity time periods. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device is a wrist-worn monitoring device. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining, at the processor, whether the received first set of athletic activity data exceeds a highest activity point total. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining, at the processor, whether the first set of athletic activity data received during a portion of the activity time period exceeds a highest activity point total. 10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining, at the processor, whether the received first set of athletic activity data exceeds, by a predetermined amount, an activity point total for a previous activity time period. 11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining, at the processor, whether the received first set of athletic activity data exceeds an activity point goal by a predetermined number of activity points. 12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: detecting a first movement of the first device; and in response to detecting the first movement of the first device, updating the number of activity points earned by the user in accordance with the received first set of athletic activity data. 13. The method of claim 12 , further comprising: in response to detecting the first movement of the first device, visually modifying a first activity point indicator displayed on a display of the first device. 14. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: detecting a first movement of the first device; and in response to detecting the first movement of the first device, synchronizing a second set of athletic activity data with the second device. 15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: determining a first location of the user based on location data obtained from at least one of the first device and the second device; and recommending a second athletic activity for the user to perform based, at least in part, on the number of activity points earned by the user and the first location of the user.
