The invention claimed is: 1. A housing for use in a respiratory gas sampling and/or delivery tubing systems comprising: a primary Luer male connector having a form of a tapered cone, comprising a secondary female section extending from a top distal part of said primary Luer male connector back towards a proximal part thereof, wherein said primary Luer male connector comprises a first inner fluid flow channel extending along its length from a proximal end thereof to and in fluid flow connection with said secondary female section; and a Luer female connector comprising a second inner fluid flow channel extending along the length thereof; wherein said first inner fluid flow channel and said second inner fluid flow channel are coextensive so as to form a joined fluid flow channel having an essentially constant diameter and extending along the length of said housing; wherein said secondary female section of said primary Luer male connector comprises a conducting material; wherein said conducting material comprises at least three conducting pads, each conductor pad separated from its neighboring conducting pad by a non-conducting gap. 2. The housing of claim 1 , wherein when said primary Luer male connector mates with a primary Luer female connector, a secondary male section of said primary Luer female is at least partially inserted into said secondary female section. 3. A housing for use in a respiratory gas sampling and/or delivery tubing systems comprising: a primary Luer male connector having a form of a tapered cone, comprising a secondary female section extending from a top distal part of said primary Luer male connector back towards a proximal part thereof, wherein said primary Luer male connector comprises a first inner fluid flow channel extending along its length from a proximal end thereof to and in fluid flow connection with said secondary female section; and a Luer female connector comprising a second inner fluid flow channel extending along the length thereof; wherein said first inner fluid flow channel and said second inner fluid flow channel are coextensive so as to form a joined fluid flow channel having an essentially constant diameter and extending along the length of said housing; wherein said Luer female connector comprises a conducting material; and wherein said conducting material comprises at least three conducting pads, each conductor pad separated from its neighboring conducting pad by a non-conducting gap. 4. The housing of claim 3 , wherein said secondary female section comprises at least three conducting pads, each conductor pad separated from its neighboring conducting pad by a non-conducting gap. 5. A housing for use in a respiratory gas sampling and/or delivery tubing systems comprising: a primary Luer male connector having a form of a tapered cone, comprising a secondary female section extending from a top distal part of said primary Luer male connector back towards a proximal part thereof, wherein said primary Luer male connector comprises a first inner fluid flow channel extending along its length from a proximal end thereof to and in fluid flow connection with said secondary female section; and a Luer female connector comprising a second inner fluid flow channel extending along the length thereof; wherein said first inner fluid flow channel and said second inner fluid flow channel are coextensive so as to form a joined fluid flow channel having an essentially constant diameter and extending along the length of said housing; and wherein said Luer female connector comprises a first optical element. 6. The housing of claim 5 , wherein said first optical element is arranged to optically connect with a second optical element positioned on a Luer male connector of a monitor when said Luer female connector and said Luer male connector of the monitor at least partially mate with one another. 7. The housing of claim 6 , wherein said primary male Luer connector further comprises a third optical element, wherein said third optical element is arranged to optically connect with a fourth optical element positioned on a primary Luer female connector of a sampling tube when said primary Luer male connector and said primary Luer female connector of the sampling tube at least partially mate with one another. 8. The housing of claim 7 , wherein said third optical element is positioned on said secondary female section.
