The invention provides antibodies and functional equivalents thereof which are capable of specifically binding RSV. Nucleic acid sequences encoding said antibody, as well as antibody producing cells and methods for producing said antibody are also provided.

The invention claimed is: 1. An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising: a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR1 comprising the amino acid sequence KLSIH (SEQ ID NO:4), and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR2 comprising the amino acid sequence GYEGEVDEIFYAQKFQH (SEQ ID NO:8), and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR3 comprising the amino acid sequence LGVTVTEAGLGIDDY (SEQ ID NO:12), and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR1 comprising the amino acid sequence RASQIVSRNHLA (SEQ ID NO:20), and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR2 comprising the amino acid sequence GASSRAT (SEQ ID NO:24), and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR3 comprising the amino acid sequence LSSDSSI (SEQ ID NO:28). 2. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1 which comprises: a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence KLSIH (SEQ ID NO:4), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GYEGEVDEIFYAQKFQH (SEQ ID NO:8), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LGVTVTEAGLGIDDY (SEQ ID NO:12), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence RASQIVSRNHLA (SEQ ID NO:20), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GASSRAT (SEQ ID NO:24), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LSSDSSI (SEQ ID NO:28). 3. The nucleic acid molecule according to claim 1 which comprises: a nucleic acid sequence encoding a variable heavy chain with the amino acid sequence QVQLVQSGAEVKKPGATVKVSCKISGHTLIKLSIHWVRQAPGKGLEWMGGYEGEVDEI FYAQKFQHRLTVIADTATDTVYME LGRLTSDDTAVY FCGTLGVTVTEAGLGI DDYW GQGTLVTVSS (SEQ ID NO:16) and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding a variable light chain with the amino acid sequence EIVLTQSPGTLSLSPGERATLSCRASQIVSRNH LAWYQQKPGQAPRLLI FGASSRAT GIPVRFSGSGSGTDFTLTI NGLAPE DFAVYYCLSSDSSIFT F GPGTKVDFK (SEQ ID NO:32). 4. The nucleic acid molecule according to claim 2 , wherein: the nucleic acid sequence encoding the heavy chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence KLSIH (SEQ ID NO:4) comprises SEQ ID NO:3, the nucleic acid sequence encoding the heavy chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GYEGEVDEIFYAQKFQH (SEQ ID NO:8) comprises SEQ ID NO:7, the nucleic acid sequence encoding the heavy chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LGVTVTEAGLGIDDY (SEQ ID NO:12) comprises SEQ ID NO:11, the nucleic acid sequence encoding the light chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence RASQIVSRNHLA (SEQ ID NO:20) comprises SEQ ID NO:19, the nucleic acid sequence encoding the light chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GASSRAT (SEQ ID NO:24) comprises SEQ ID NO:23, and/or the nucleic acid sequence encoding the light chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LSSDSSI (SEQ ID NO:28) comprises SEQ ID NO:27. 5. The nucleic acid molecule according to claim 3 , wherein: the nucleic acid sequence encoding the variable heavy chain with the amino acid sequence QVQLVQSGAEVKKPGATVKVSCKISGHTLIKLSIHWVRQAPGKGLEWMGGY EGEVDEIFYAQKFQHRLTVIADTATDTVYMELGRLTSDDTAVYFCGTLGVTVTEAGLGI DDYWGQGTLVTVSS (SEQ ID NO:16) comprises SEQ ID NO:15, and/or the nucleic acid sequence encoding the variable light chain with the amino acid sequence EIVLTQSPGTLSLSPGERATLSCRASQIVSRNHLAWYQQKPGQAPRLLIFGASS RATGIPVRFSGSGSGTDFTLTINGLAPEDFAVYYCLSSDSSIFTFGPGTKVDFK (SEQ ID NO:32) comprises SEQ ID NO:31. 6. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 2 , further comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding an immunoglobulin heavy chain constant region and/or a nucleic acid sequence encoding an immunoglobulin light chain constant region. 7. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 2 , further comprising a nucleic acid sequence encoding an Fc region of an IgG molecule. 8. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 7 , wherein the Fc region comprises a modification at one or more positions selected from the group consisting of 234, 235, 236, 237, 238, 239, 240, 241, 243, 244, 245, 247, 251, 252, 254, 255, 256, 262, 263, 264, 265, 266, 267, 268, 269, 279, 280, 284, 292, 296, 297, 298, 299, 305, 313, 316, 325, 326, 327, 328, 329, 330, 331, 332, 333, 334, 339, 341, 343, 370, 373, 378, 392, 416, 419, 421, 440 and 443 as numbered by the EU index of Kabat, said modification comprising an amino acid substitution, and/or an amino acid insertion, and/or an amino acid deletion. 9. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 8 , wherein the Fc region modification comprises amino acid substitutions at amino acid positions 252, 254, and/or 256. 10. The isolated nucleic acid molecule according to claim 9 , wherein the amino acid substitution at amino acid position 252 is a substitution with tyrosine, the amino acid substitution at amino acid position 254 is a substitution with threonine, and/or the amino acid substitution at amino acid position 256 is a substitution with glutamic acid. 11. An isolated nucleic acid molecule comprising: a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence KLSIH (SEQ ID NO:4); and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GYEGEVDEIFYAQKFQH (SEQ ID NO:8), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LGVTVTEAGLGIDDY (SEQ ID NO:12), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR1 sequence comprising the sequence RASQIVSRNHLA (SEQ ID NO:20), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR2 sequence comprising the sequence GASSRAT (SEQ ID NO:24), and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain CDR3 sequence comprising the sequence LSSDSSI (SEQ ID NO:28); and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a human IgG1 constant region; wherein the human IgG1 constant region comprises a tyrosine at amino acid position 252, a threonine at amino acid position 254, and a glutamic acid at amino acid position 256, said amino acid positions as numbered by the EU index of Kabat. 12. An isolated nucleic acid molecule of claim 11 , the nucleic acid molecule comprising: a nucleic acid sequence encoding a heavy chain sequence comprising the sequence QVQLVQSGAEVKKPGATVKVSCKISGHTLIKLSIHWVRQAPGKGLEWMGG YEGEVDEIFYAQKFQHRLTVIADTATDTVYMELGRLTSDDTAVYFCGTLGV TVTEAGLGIDDYWGQGTLVTVSS (SEQ ID NO: 16); and a nucleic acid sequence encoding a light chain sequence comprising the sequence EIVLTQSPGTLSLSPG ERATLSCRASQIVSRNHLAWYQQKPGQAPRLLIFGA SSRATGIPVRFSGSGSGTDFTLTINGLAPEDFAVYYCLSSDSSIFTFGPGTKV DFK (SEQ ID NO: 32). 13. A vector comprising a nucleic acid molecule of claim 2 . 14. A vector comprising a nucleic acid molecule of claim 2 , wherein the nucleic acid molecule is operably linked to a control sequence or promoter. 15. An isolated host cell genetically engineered to contain or express the nucleic acid molecule of claim 2 . 16. The isolated host cell of claim 2 , wherein the isolated host cell is selected from a Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell, a NSO (a mouse myeloma) cell, or a 293(T) cell. 17. An isolated host cell comprising the vector of claim 13 . 18. The isolated host cell according to claim 17 , wherein the isolated host cell is selected from a Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell, a NSO (a mouse myeloma) cell, or a 293(T) cell. 19.
