Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A dynamic uploading protocol comprises an input interface configured to receive a manifest comprising a plurality of events which may be uploaded; wherein the manifest additionally comprises sensor information relating to each of the plurality of events. The system for a dynamic uploading protocol additionally comprises a processor configured to determine whether to upload additional information about each event, wherein determining whether to upload additional information about each event is based at least in part on the sensor information and contextual information. The system for a dynamic uploading protocol additionally comprises an output interface configured to request the additional information. The system for a dynamic uploading protocol additionally comprises a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide the processor with instructions.

What is claimed is: 1. A system for requesting data, comprising: an input interface configured to: receive a manifest comprising sensor information associated with a plurality of events; and a processor configured to: sort the plurality of events by event importance, wherein the event importance is based at least in part on the subset of the sensor information and contextual information relating to the plurality of events; select at least one event from the plurality of events according to an event importance associated with the at least one event; and an output interface configured to: request additional information for the selected at least one event. 2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is additionally configured to determine the contextual information relating to the plurality of events. 3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the contextual information relating to the selected at least one event comprises one or more of the following: weather conditions, location, traffic conditions, posted regulations, timing within driver shift, or a behavior outcome of past reviewed events. 4. The system of claim 1 , wherein events are selected for uploading for a combination of risky behavior types. 5. The system of claim 1 , wherein a number of events selected is based at least in part on a cost criterion. 6. The system of claim 1 , wherein a frequency of events selected is based at least in part on a cost criterion. 7. The system of claim 1 , wherein selecting the at least one event includes randomly selecting the at least one event from events having an associated event importance above a threshold. 8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sorting the plurality of events is further based at least in part on one or more of the following factors: the likelihood that the event is coachable, has a probability of collision greater than a collision probability threshold, and a probability of contributing to a collision greater than a contributing to a collision probability threshold. 9. The system of claim 1 , wherein selecting the at least one event includes randomly selecting the at least one event from events having an associated importance above a threshold, wherein the threshold is based at least in part on the wireless connection type available. 10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the threshold increases with an increasing cost of a wireless connection. 11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the threshold is set such that fewer events are selected to be uploaded if only a cellular connection is available compared with other types of connections being available. 12. The system of claim 1 , wherein the input interface is configured to receive the additional information. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the additional information is received at a time determined to reduce a cost of data transmission. 14. The system of claim 1 , wherein: the manifest is received during a first period of time; and the selecting the at least one event is performed during a second period of time, the second period of time being at least partially non-overlapping with the first period of time. 15. The system of claim 1 , wherein the selecting the at least one event is based at least in part on a business rule. 16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to filter the selected at least one event according to a business rule, wherein the business rule enforces one or more of the following: a time of day restriction, a data cost restriction, a privacy restriction, service contract restriction or privilege, or a subscription restriction or privilege. 17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event importance is based on a likelihood that the subset of the sensor information and the contextual information indicates a risky driving event. 18. The system of claim 1 , wherein the additional information includes captured sensor information other than the subset of sensor information of the manifest. 19. The system of claim 1 , further comprising: a vehicle event recorder coupled to a vehicle configured to: capture sensor information relating to the plurality of events, wherein the sensor information comprises data from a plurality of sensors; store the sensor information relating to the plurality of events; and send the manifest of the plurality of events to the input interface. 20. A method for uploading data, comprising: receiving a manifest comprising sensor information associated with a plurality of events; sort the plurality of events by event importance, wherein the event importance is based at least in part on the subset of the sensor information and contextual information relating to the plurality of events; select at least one event from the plurality of events according to an event importance associated with the at least one event; and requesting additional information for the selected at least one event. 21. A computer program product for uploading data, the computer program product being embodied in a non-transitory tangible computer readable storage medium and comprising computer instructions for: receiving a manifest comprising sensor information associated with a plurality of events; sort the plurality of events by event importance, wherein the event importance is based at least in part on the subset of the sensor information and contextual information relating to the plurality of events; select at least one event from the plurality of events according to an event importance associated with the at least one event; and requesting additional information for the selected at least one event.
