A vehicle having a sliding door arranged behind a body pillar, a frame around the door opening closeable by the sliding door, a rail system provided in the region of the sliding door connected fixedly to the vehicle and having upper and lower guide rails, sliding carriages provided on the sliding door connected to the sliding door via a respective supporting arm and guided displaceably on the guide rails, and side impact protection in the region of the sliding door. At least one of the sliding carriages or supporting arms is provided with a stop. In the event of a side impact, in which the outer vehicle wall is deformed in the direction of the vehicle interior, an abutment connected to the vehicle wall comes to bear against the stop of the sliding carriage or of the supporting arm, and the position of the sliding door is thereby blocked.

The invention claimed is: 1. A vehicle comprising at least one sliding door arranged behind a body pillar in a direction of travel, a frame running around a door opening which can be closed by a sliding door of the at least one sliding door, at least one guide rail, a sliding carriage provided on the sliding door and connected to the sliding door via a respective supporting arm, wherein the sliding carriage is guided displaceably on the at least one guide rail, an abutment is fixedly connected to a vehicle wall and is provided approximately within the same horizontal plane as the sliding carriage, wherein at least one of the sliding carriage and the supporting arm is provided with a stop, and wherein during an impact condition the vehicle wall is deformed in a direction of the vehicle interior, wherein the abutment, which is connected to the vehicle wall, comes to bear against the stop of one of the sliding carriage and the supporting arm, and wherein the engagement of the stop and the abutment secures the sliding door in a closed position and free of sliding operation along the at least one guide rail, and wherein the sliding door is operable along the at least one guide rail when the abutment is free of engagement with the stop, wherein the stop provided on one of the sliding carriage and the supporting arm defines a catch hook having a V-shaped receiving region. 2. The vehicle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the abutment is arranged approximately in the same horizontal plane with the at least one guide rail and the sliding carriage. 3. The vehicle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein front portions of the guide rails proximate the body pillar in the direction of travel include angled ends running toward a center of the vehicle. 4. The vehicle as claimed in claim 3 , wherein the angled ends of the guide rails engage in lateral pockets of the vehicle. 5. The vehicle as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the respective abutment is a pin, wherein during a side impact condition, the pin moves toward the V-shaped receiving region. 6. The vehicle as claimed in claim 5 , wherein, during the side impact condition, the pin engages in the V-shaped receiving region of the stop after the pin has deflected a predetermined distance as a result of the side impact condition. 7. The vehicle as claimed in claim 5 , wherein the pin defined by the abutment is arranged between a sill and the frame surrounding the door opening of the sliding door and is connected stably to the sill and the frame. 8. A vehicle comprising: a frame defining a door opening; a rail system; a sliding door comprising a sliding carriage and supporting arm to guide the sliding door on the rail system; an abutment provided on a vehicle wall; and a stop provided on one of the sliding carriage and supporting arm to engage the abutment when the vehicle wall is deformed towards a center of the vehicle as a result of a side impact condition, wherein engagement of the stop and the abutment secures the sliding door in a closed position and free of sliding operation on the rail system, and wherein the sliding door is operable along the rail system when the abutment is free of engagement with the stop, wherein the stop provided within one of the sliding carriage or the supporting arm defines a catch hook having a V-shaped receiving region. 9. The vehicle as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the rail system comprises at least one guide rail and at least one sliding carriage. 10. The vehicle as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the abutment is arranged level with the at least one guide rail and the at least one sliding carriage. 11. The vehicle as claimed in claim 9 , wherein the at least one guide rail is located at a front in a direction of travel and has an angled end running toward the center of the vehicle. 12. The vehicle as claimed in claim 11 , wherein the angled end of the at least one guide rail engage in a lateral pocket of the vehicle. 13. The vehicle as claimed in claim 8 , wherein the abutment is designed as a pin which, during a side impact condition, comes to bear against the stop after the pin is deflected a predetermined distance as a result of the side impact condition. 14. The vehicle as claimed in claim 13 , wherein, after the pin has deflected the predetermined distance as a result of the side impact condition, the pin engages in the V-shaped receiving region of the stop. 15. The vehicle as claimed in claim 13 , wherein the pin forming the abutment is arranged between a sill and the frame surrounding the door opening of the sliding door and is connected stably to said sill and frame.
