A bridging device for supporting occlusive masses within an aneurysm located at a vascular bifurcation.
Opening claim text (preview).
We claim: 1. A method of placing an endoluminal support, said method comprising the steps of: advancing the endoluminal support within a catheter in a collapsed configuration; placing the endoluminal support within vasculature of a patient to permit a distal end portion of the support to expand from the collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration; securing the distal end portion of the endoluminal support within the vasculature in the expanded configuration; after the distal end portion is secured, manipulating a proximal end portion of the endoluminal support to deform a central region of the endoluminal support; and securing the proximal end portion of the endoluminal support within the vasculature to maintain the central region of the endoluminal support in a deformed state. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the step of: delivering the endoluminal support to into the vasculature while secured to a delivery wire; and detaching the endoluminal support from the delivery wire and withdrawing the delivery wire from the vasculature. 3. A method of treating a wide-necked aneurysm proximate a bifurcation in vasculature of a patient, said bifurcation characterized by an inlet vessel providing blood flow to a first outlet vessel and a second outlet vessel, said method comprising: providing a bridging device for bridging the aneurysm, said bridging device comprising an inlet anchoring portion at a first end of the bridging device and an outlet anchoring portion at a second end of the bridging device, and one or more struts extending from the inlet anchoring portion to the outlet anchoring portion and, in an expanded configuration, protruding arcuately and outwardly from a center portion of the bridging device; advancing the bridging device into the vasculature of the patient, proximate the aneurysm, such that the inlet anchoring portion is disposed within the inlet vessel and the outlet anchoring portion is disposed within the first outlet vessel; permitting expansion of the bridging device within the vasculature to the expanded configuration; after the bridging device expands to the expanded configuration, manipulating the inlet anchoring portion of the bridging device to deform the struts from the expanded configuration and cause the struts to protrude toward the aneurysm and the second outlet; and implanting an embolizing mass into the aneurysm, such that the struts of the bridging device retain the embolizing mass within the wide-necked aneurysm and maintain a flow path from the inlet vessel to the second outlet vessel which is substantially unoccluded by the embolizing mass. 4. The method of claim 3 , wherein aneurysm is a wide-necked basilar tip aneurysm, the inlet vessel is a basilar artery, the first outlet vessel is a first posterior cerebral artery, and the second outlet vessel is a second posterior cerebral artery. 5. The method of claim 3 , wherein the bifurcation is a bifurcation of a middle cerebral artery, an internal carotid artery, an anterior communicating artery, a superior cerebellar artery, a pericallosal artery, a basilar artery or a posterior inferior cerebellar artery. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the manipulating comprises pulling and twisting the proximal end portion. 7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the pulling and twisting of the proximal end portion is performed without compressing the distal end portion. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the endoluminal support is self-expanding. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the vasculature comprises a bifurcation, and wherein the securing the distal end portion comprises securing the distal end portion within a first branch artery of the bifurcation, and the securing the proximal end portion comprises securing the proximal end portion within a parent artery of the bifurcation. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the manipulating the proximal end portion comprises deforming the central region to protrude toward an aneurysm within the vasculature. 11. The method of claim 10 , further comprising implanting an embolizing mass into the aneurysm. 12. The method of claim 3 , wherein the manipulating comprises pulling and twisting the inlet anchoring portion. 13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the pulling and twisting of the inlet anchoring portion is performed without compressing the outlet anchoring portion. 14. The method of claim 3 , wherein the bridging device is self-expanding. 15. A method of placing an endoluminal support, the method comprising the steps of: advancing the endoluminal support within a catheter in a collapsed configuration; advancing a distal end portion of the endoluminal support from the catheter into vasculature of a patient to permit the distal end portion and a central region of the endoluminal support to expand from the collapsed configuration to an expanded configuration; securing the distal end portion to the vasculature; while the central region is in the expanded configuration, manipulating a proximal end portion of the endoluminal support to cause deformation the central region of the endoluminal support; and securing the proximal end portion to the vasculature to maintain the central region in a deformed state. 16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the manipulating comprises pulling and twisting the proximal end portion. 17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the pulling and twisting of the proximal end portion is performed without compressing the distal end portion. 18. The method of claim 15 , wherein the endoluminal support is self-expanding. 19. The method of claim 15 , wherein the vasculature comprises a bifurcation, and wherein the securing the distal end portion comprises securing the distal end portion within a first branch artery of the bifurcation, and the securing the proximal end portion comprises securing the proximal end portion within a parent artery of the bifurcation. 20. The method of claim 15 , wherein the manipulating the proximal end portion comprises deforming the central region to protrude toward an aneurysm within the vasculature, and the method further comprises implanting an embolizing mass into the aneurysm.
