What is claimed: 1. A rack holding pipette tips, said pipette tips comprising a first open end dimensioned to engage with an interface of a process head, and a second open end, said rack comprising chambers accommodating at least a first type of pipette tips and a second type of pipette tips, wherein said second type of pipette tip is shorter than the first type of pipette tip, and is used to pipette smaller amounts of liquid than is pipetted by the first type of pipette tip, the rack comprising a first through bore-holes with a first seating area for insertion of the first type of pipette tips and a second through bore-holes with a second seating area for insertion of the second type of pipette tips in said rack, wherein the first seating area and the second seating area comprise different heights, the first type of pipette tips comprising a first receiving ridge and the second type of pipette tips comprising a second receiving ridge, wherein the first receiving ridge and the second receiving ridge have different vertical lengths, and the first receiving ridge contacts the first seating area of the first through bore-holes and the second receiving ridge contacts the second seating area of the second through bore-holes when the first type of pipette tips and the second type of pipette tips are seated in the rack, capillary channels formed on an upper surface of the rack, wherein the capillary channels separate the through bore-holes of the second seating areas, at least two positioning elements located on a top surface of said rack wherein said chambers are independent, and the first type of pipette tips and the second type of pipette tips are stored in said rack in alternate rows. 2. The rack according to claim 1 , wherein said rack comprises more than one part. 3. The rack according to claim 1 , wherein said rack is an integral one part rack. 4. The rack according to claim 1 , wherein the volume of the first type of pipette tips is at least 1 ml and the volume of the second type of pipette tips is below 1 ml. 5. The rack of claim 1 , wherein said rack comprises 48 pipette tips of a first type and 48 pipette tips of a second type. 6. The rack according to claim 1 , wherein said chambers are vessels.
