Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A stock for a firearm is disclosed. The stock comprises a stock-to-firearm interface, and a folding stock assembly hingedly coupled to the stock-to-firearm interface. The stock comprises a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration. The stock-to-firearm interface comprises a modifiable firearm mount, a lock catch, a quick detach mount, and one of a detent notch and a detent. The folding stock assembly comprises a buttstock, a lock for engaging the lock catch in the stock-to-firearm interface to selectively maintain the stock in the unfolded configuration, and the other one of a detent and a detent notch. The detent is shaped to engage the detent notch to selectively maintain the stock in the folded configuration. The quick detach mount is shaped to distribute a carry force between a first surface of the stock-to-firearm interface and at least one of a second surface of the stock-to-firearm interface and a firearm.

What is claimed is: 1. A stock for a firearm, comprising: a stock-to-firearm interface for mounting the stock to a firearm; a folding stock assembly hingedly coupled to the stock-to-firearm interface; wherein: the stock comprises a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, a detent notch, and a detent, wherein the detent is shaped to engage the detent notch to selectively maintain the stock in the folded configuration; the stock-to-firearm interface comprises a modifiable firearm mount, a lock catch, a quick detach mount, and the detent notch or the detent; the folding stock assembly comprises a buttstock, a lock for engaging the lock catch in the stock-to-firearm interface to selectively maintain the stock in the unfolded configuration, and the other one of the detent and the detent notch; and the quick detach mount is shaped to interface an accessory to the stock and to distribute a carry force between a first surface of the stock-to-firearm interface and at least one of a second surface of the stock-to-firearm interface and a firearm. 2. The stock of claim 1 , wherein: the detent is a spring-biased translational detent. 3. The stock assembly of claim 1 , wherein: the lock comprises a button biased towards a laterally extended position relative to a central portion of the folding stock assembly; the button engages the lock catch when the folding stock assembly is in the unfolded configuration; and the button is shaped to disengage from the lock catch when the button is compressed towards the central portion of the folding stock assembly. 4. The stock of claim 1 , wherein: the stock-to-firearm interface has a hinge with a hinge axis, and at least one of the stock-to-firearm interface and the folding stock assembly is shaped to limit the folding stock assembly to rotational movement about the hinge axis. 5. The stock of claim 4 , wherein: the hinge axis is not parallel to a vertical axis of the stock, the vertical axis perpendicular to a firing direction of the stock; and the hinge axis is tilted no more than 5 degrees relative to the vertical axis. 6. The stock of claim 1 , wherein: the quick detach mount comprises a mounting face shaped to receive the accessory, a first engagement surface shaped to engage a first inner surface of the stock-to-firearm interface, and an arm extending from the mounting face, the arm shaped to engage at least one of a second inner surface of the stock-to-firearm interface, a third inner surface of the stock-to-firearm interface, and the firearm; the folding stock assembly comprises predominantly polymeric materials; and the quick detach mount and a portion of the modifiable firearm mount comprise a metallic material. 7. The stock of claim 1 , further comprising: a cheek riser removably attached to the folding stock assembly, the cheek riser comprising a charging handle glance surface. 8. The stock of claim 1 , wherein the folding stock assembly further comprises: a length of pull adjustment mechanism having a lever and a length of pull adjustment rail, the lever hingedly mounted at a proximal portion of the folding stock assembly, the lever shaped to selectively engage the length of pull adjustment rail at any one of a plurality of adjustment recesses in the length of pull adjustment rail, and biased towards engagement with the length of pull adjustment rail; wherein the lever is further shaped to disengage from the length of pull adjustment rail in response to an application of a longitudinal force in a proximal direction on the lever. 9. The stock of claim 8 , wherein: the length of pull adjustment mechanism is shaped to allow the lever to be disengaged from the length of pull adjustment rail by applying a gripping-force about the at a proximal portion of the folding stock assembly. 10. The stock of claim 9 , wherein: the gripping-force causes the lever to rotate about a transverse hinge at the proximal portion of the folding stock assembly. 11. The stock of claim 1 , wherein: the modifiable firearm mount comprises a primary mount body, a modifier body, and a fastener; the primary mount body and the modifier body are shaped to fit within a recess of a receiver of a firearm; and the fastener adjustably and operatively couples the modifier body to the primary mount body to adjust a maximum insert profile. 12. The stock of claim 11 , wherein: the fastener further couples the quick detach mount to the primary mount body. 13. The stock of claim 11 , wherein: the primary mount body comprises an angled distal surface; and the modifier body comprises an angled proximal surface shaped to translate across the angled distal surface between a retracted position and an extended position relative to the primary mount body; and wherein the maximum insert profile is defined by the primary mount body when the modifier body is in the retracted position; and the maximum insert profile is defined by the primary mount body and the modifier body when the modifier body is in the extended position. 14. The stock of claim 1 , wherein: the firearm is an AK-47 style firearm. 15. A stock for a firearm, comprising: a stock-to-firearm interface for mounting the stock to a firearm; a folding stock assembly hingedly coupled to the stock-to-firearm interface, wherein the stock comprises a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, a detent notch, and a detent, wherein the detent is shaped to engage the detent notch to selectively maintain the stock in the folded configuration; the stock-to-firearm interface comprises a modifiable firearm mount, a lock catch, and the detent notch or the detent; and the folding stock assembly comprises a buttstock, a lock for engaging the lock catch in the stock-to-firearm interface to selectively maintain the stock in the unfolded configuration, and the other one of the detent and the detent notch; and wherein the lock comprises a safe-release mechanism to allow the folding stock assembly to fold without breaking of the lock, a body of the folding stock assembly, and a body of the stock-to-firearm interface when a folding moment is applied to the stock when the button is engaged with the lock catch. 16. The stock of claim 15 , wherein: the safe-release mechanism comprises a first lock catch engagement surface and a second lock catch engagement surface; the first lock catch engagement surface is shaped to cause the lock to compress as the stock is moved into an unfolded configuration, the first lock catch engagement surface further shaped to cause the lock to compress in a transverse direction under a first longitudinal force; the second lock catch engagement surface is shaped to cause the lock to compress as the stock is moved from the unfolded configuration into a folded configuration, the second lock catch engagement surface further shaped to cause the lock to compress in a transverse direction under a second longitudinal force, the second longitudinal force at least an order of magnitude greater than the first longitudinal force. 17. A stock for a firearm, comprising: a stock-to-firearm interface for mounting the stock to a firearm; and a folding stock assembly hingedly coupled to the stock-to-firearm interface; wherein the stock comprises a folded configuration and an unfolded configuration, a detent notch, and a detent, wherein the detent is shaped to engage the detent notch to selectively maintain the stock in the folded configuration; the stock-to-firearm interface comprises a modifiable firearm mount, a lock catch, and the detent notch or the deten
