A compressor housing assembly can include a shell that includes a cylindrical wall portion including a fluid inlet opening at one end and a sloped mating surface at an opposing end and, extending radially outwardly from the cylindrical wall portion, a spiral wall portion that defines, in part, a volute; and an insert that includes a cylindrical wall portion including a fluid inlet opening at one end and a shroud surface at an opposing end and, extending radially outwardly from the cylindrical wall portion, an annular ring portion including a sloped mating surface and, extending from the shroud surface, a diffuser surface, where, in an assembled state, the sloped mating surface of the insert and the sloped mating surface of the shell form a sloped interface between the insert and the shell.
