The invention claimed is: 1. A device for mounting a flexible, profiled hollow cylinder onto a cylindrical element comprising at least means for gripping the profiled hollow cylinder at one or more points, means for stretching the profiled hollow cylinder along its longitudinal axis to elongate the profiled hollow cylinder by from 1% to 30%, whereby the smallest inner diameter of the profiled hollow cylinder is increased in size, and means for inserting the cylindrical element into the elongated hollow cylinder, and then allowing the hollow cylinder to relax, whereby the length of the stretched profiled hollow cylinder decreases and the smallest inner diameter decreases. 2. A device according to claim 1 , wherein the gripping means comprise at least two gripping elements which hold the hollow cylinder at both ends and of which at least one gripping element is movable, so that the gripping elements can be moved relatively away from each other while elongating the hollow cylinder. 3. A device according to claim 2 , wherein the means for gripping the hollow cylinder comprise more than two gripping elements which are distributed uniformly over the length of the hollow cylinder and can move relatively away from each other. 4. A device according to claim 1 , further comprising means for adjusting the elongated hollow cylinder in relation to the cylindrical element. 5. A device according to claim 1 , further comprising temperature control means for the hollow cylinder.
