A discrete absorbent insert includes a first sheet, a second sheet in facing relation with the first sheet, and an absorbent core positioned between the first sheet and the second sheet. The absorbent core defines a core perimeter which includes a first absorbent core positioning notch. The first sheet and the second sheet extend beyond the core perimeter and are joined together to form a perimeter seal. The perimeter seal defines an absorbent insert perimeter which includes a first absorbent insert positioning notch. The first absorbent core positioning notch has a depth of 30 to 60 mm, the first absorbent insert positioning notch has a depth of 30 to 60 mm, and the first absorbent insert positioning notch is aligned with the first absorbent core positioning notch.
