Official abstract text for this publication.
A method and system for fitting and adjusting the operation of an acoustic hearing prosthesis or a hybrid electric and acoustic hearing prosthesis. A graphic user interface allows for the acoustic and electric fitting parameters to be viewed and adjusted in a comparable way. The method further allows for the parameters for acoustic stimulation of the acoustic channels to be adjusted in response to behavioral or objective measurement of responses to known stimuli, so as to achieve a desired response curve.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for adjusting a response curve of a hybrid hearing prosthesis system, the hybrid hearing prosthesis system including at least a filter bank, a processor, an acoustic stimulator, an electrical stimulator, and an electrode array implanted in a recipient, the filter bank operatively providing an output channel signal for each of one or more frequency channels, and the processor operatively applying at least one channel-specific input/output parameter to one or more of the output channel signals to produce acoustic stimuli via the acoustic stimulator and electrical stimuli via the electrical stimulator, the method including: for each frequency channel for which acoustic stimulation is contemplated, (i) providing via the acoustic stimulator an acoustic stimulus at a known level and (ii) using the electrode array to determine an evoked neural response to each acoustic stimulus, wherein the processor produces the acoustic stimulus using the at least one input/output parameter for the frequency channel; compiling the evoked neural responses to produce the response curve; comparing the response curve to a predetermined response curve; and for one or more of the frequency channels for which acoustic stimulation is contemplated, adjusting the least one input/output parameter so that the response curve best matches the predetermined response curve. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein, for one or more of the frequency channels for which acoustic stimulation is contemplated, the adjusted at least one input/output parameter is at least one of a gain or a maximum power output. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein, for one or more of the frequency channels for which acoustic stimulation is contemplated, adjusting the at least one input/output parameter results in deactivating the frequency channel. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: for each channel for which electrical stimulation is contemplated, providing an electrical stimulus at a known level and using the electrode array to determine an evoked neural response to the electrical stimulus; and adjusting at least one input/output parameter for each channel for which electrical stimulation is contemplated. 5. The method of claim 4 , wherein, based on the determined evoked neural response for each acoustic stimulus and each electrical stimulus, determining at least one of a cut-off channel or a range of transition channels. 6. A method for optimizing a response curve of a hearing system that provides acoustic stimulation, the hearing system including at least a filter bank, a processor, an acoustic stimulator, and at least one electrode, the filter bank operatively providing an output channel signal for each of a plurality of frequency channels, and the processor operatively applying at least one channel-specific input/output parameter to one or more of the output channel signals to produce acoustic stimuli via the acoustic stimulator, the method comprising: for each frequency channel, providing via the acoustic stimulator an acoustic stimulus at a known level, wherein the processor produces the acoustic stimulus using the at least one input/output parameter for the frequency channel; using the implanted electrode to determine an evoked neural response to each acoustic stimulus; compiling the evoked neural responses across multiple channels to produce the response curve; comparing the response curve to a predetermined response curve; and for one or more frequency channels, adjusting at least one input/output parameter so that the response curve best matches the predetermined response curve.
