What is claimed is: 1. A nitric oxide-releasing acrylonitrile-based polymer, wherein the polymer is a copolymer of acrylonitrile and at least one olefinic monomer that contains a >C=C<group, wherein the copolymer comprises at least one nitric oxide releasing group, and wherein the nitric oxide releasing group is bound to the olefinic monomer within the polymer. 2.
