An end face of a sheet member is cut while rotating a cutting member having a rotation axis extending along a vertical direction of the end face of the sheet member and a cutting blade projecting to a side of the end face of the sheet member around the rotation axis. The cutting member is moved relatively to the sheet member along a longitudinal direction of the end face to be cut. The part separated from a virtual line parallel to the sheet face and passing the rotation center in a cutting region formed by the rotating cutting blade is made to contact the end face of the sheet member.

What is claimed is: 1. A sheet member comprising: a plurality of optical films laminated together; an end face; and a cutting trace formed on said end face, said cutting trace extending at an angle of 75° or less to a longitudinal direction of said end face, wherein said end face is located on a thickness side of said sheet member, said end face is cut while rotating a cutting member having a rotation axis extending along a vertical direction of said end face and a cutting blade projecting to a side of said end face around the rotation axis, the cutting member is moved relatively to said sheet member along a longitudinal direction of said end face to be cut, and a part separated from a virtual line parallel to said end face and passing the rotation center in a cutting region formed by the rotating cutting blade is made to contact the end face of the sheet member. 2. The sheet member of claim 1 , wherein a maximum height of the cut end face is 6 μm or less. 3. An optical element comprising: the sheet member of claim 1 , wherein the sheet member is arranged on one side or both sides of said optical element. 4. The sheet member of claim 1 , wherein the cutting trace is formed in a single fixed direction on the end face of the sheet member.
