Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A water-soluble pouch suitable for use in machine dishwashing and which comprises a plurality of compartments in generally superposed or superposable relationship, each containing one or more detergent active or auxiliary components, and wherein the pouch has a volume of from about 5 to about 70 ml and a longitudinal/transverse aspect ratio in the range from about 2:1 to about 1:8, preferably from about 1:1 to about 1:4. The water-soluble pouch allows for optimum delivery of dishwashing detergent. A process for the manufacture of multi-compartment pouches and a pack to contain the pouches are also disclosed.

The invention claimed is: 1. A unit dose automatic dishwashing product comprising: (a) a pouch comprising a water-soluble film and at least one compartment; and (b) a multi-phase composition comprising a non-ionic surfactant, where each phase is independently selected from the group consisting of a powder phase, a liquid phase, a gel phase, and mixtures thereof; wherein each phase of said multi-phase cleaning composition has a different color from the other respective phase(s) of said multi-phase cleaning composition, and wherein said multi-phase composition is contained in said compartment, and wherein said composition is substantially free of zwitterionic, anionic, and amphoteric surfactants, wherein the multi-phase composition comprises water, wherein the water content in the multi-phase composition is similar to the water content in the water-soluble film. 2. The product of claim 1 , wherein the water soluble film comprises polyvinyl alcohol. 3. The product of claim 1 , wherein each phase of said multi-phase cleaning composition has the same color from the other respective phase(s) of said multi-phase cleaning composition. 4. The product of claim 1 , wherein each phase of said multi-phase cleaning composition has a different density from the other respective phase(s) of said multi-phase cleaning composition. 5. The product of claim 1 , wherein each phase of said multi-phase cleaning composition has the same density from the other respective phase(s) of said multi-phase cleaning composition. 6. The product of claim 1 , wherein each phase of said multi-phase cleaning composition has a different color and density from the other respective phase(s) of said multi-phase cleaning composition. 7. The product of claim 6 , wherein the pouch is capable of containing a volume from about 4 ml to about 70 ml. 8. The product of claim 6 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises a volume from about 5 ml to about 70 ml. 9. The product of claim 8 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition further comprises at least one enzyme. 10. The product of claim 9 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a liquid phase and a gel phase. 11. The product of claim 9 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a gel phase and a powder phase. 12. The product of claim 9 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a liquid phase and a powder phase. 13. The product of claim 1 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a liquid phase and a gel phase. 14. The product of claim 1 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a gel phase and a powder phase. 15. The product of claim 1 , wherein said multi-phase cleaning composition comprises at least a liquid phase and a powder phase. 16. A method of cleaning dishware comprising the step of dosing the product of claim 1 into an automatic dishwashing machine. 17. The product of claim 1 , wherein the pouch comprising a water-soluble film comprises a single wall. 18. The product of claim 1 , wherein the pouch comprises at least two compartments.
