A drawn surgical suture material includes an elongate main body and barbs for anchoring in biological tissues, wherein the barbs are formed by cuts made into the suture material in the undrawn state.

A method of producing a surgical suture material comprising: a) cutting barbs for anchoring in biological tissue into an elongate body of undrawn suture material fiber, and b) drawing the suture material fiber to form the surgical suture material. 2.
