Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments described herein provide for a mobile electronic device including a wireless network interface coupled to a bus, a memory device coupled to the bus, and one or more processors coupled to the bus, the one or more processors to execute instructions to perform a scan, via the wireless network interface, for a beacon advertisement that is broadcast by a wireless device within range of the wireless network interface, detect the beacon advertisement broadcast by the wireless device, retrieve an identifier broadcast within the beacon advertisement, based on a result of a comparison between the identifier to at least one expected identifier, selectively send a timer reset packet to the wireless device and an authorization token for the wireless accessory to remain in near-owner mode, and allow the one or more processors to sleep for a predetermined time.

What is claimed is: 1 . A computer-implemented method comprising: generating, by a first device, during a first time period, first cryptographic information based at least in part on shared data that is shared between the first device and a second device; exchanging, by the first device with the second device, the first cryptographic information with second cryptographic information generated by the second device based on the shared data; receiving, by the first device from the second device, during a second time period, a broadcast including first information; generating, by the first device, a determination that the first information corresponds with the second cryptographic information; and transmitting, by the first device to the second device, based at least in part on the determination, a command, wherein the command includes second information corresponding with the first cryptographic information. 2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the command includes instructions for the second device to play a sound. 3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the command includes instructions for the second device to adjust a rate of transmission of future broadcasts. 4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein the command includes instructions for the second device to withhold from transmitting a second broadcast after the broadcast for a predetermined time period. 5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein: generating the first cryptographic information includes generating a first connection authorization token; exchanging the first cryptographic information with the second device includes exchanging the first connection authorization token with a second connection authorization token generated by the second device; and the computer-implemented method further comprises, prior to receiving the broadcast, transmitting, by the first device to the second device, a connection request to form a connection between the first device and the second device, wherein: the connection request includes an identifier corresponding to the first connection authorization token; and receiving the broadcast is in response to the connection request and based at least in part on the identifier and first connection authorization token. 6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 5 , wherein the identifier includes a hardware address of the first device. 7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising, during the first time period: prior to generating the first cryptographic information, generating, by the first device, first randomized data; and exchanging, by the first device with the second device, the first randomized data with second randomized data generated by the second device, wherein the shared data is based at least in part on the first randomized data and the second randomized data. 8 . The computer-implemented method of claim 7 , further comprising, during the first time period: generating, by the first device, a shared secret key based at least in part on the shared data; and transmitting, by the first device to a keystore, the shared secret key, wherein the keystore is accessible to one or more other devices associated with the first device. 9 . The computer-implemented method of claim 8 , wherein generating the first cryptographic information is based at least in part on the shared secret key. 10 . One or more non-transitory computer-readable media comprising computer-executable instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a first device, cause the first device to perform operations comprising: generating, by the first device, during a first time period, first cryptographic information based at least in part on shared data that is shared between the first device and a second device; exchanging, by the first device with the second device, the first cryptographic information with second cryptographic information generated by the second device based on the shared data; receiving, by the first device from the second device, during a second time period, a broadcast including first information; generating, by the first device, a determination that the first information corresponds with the second cryptographic information; and transmitting, by the first device to the second device, based at least in part on the determination, a command, wherein the command includes second information corresponding with the first cryptographic information. 11 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 , wherein the command includes instructions for the second device to adjust a rate of transmission of future broadcasts. 12 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 11 , wherein the command includes instructions for the second device to withhold from transmitting a second broadcast after the broadcast for a predetermined time period. 13 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 , wherein: generating the first cryptographic information includes generating a first connection authorization token; exchanging the first cryptographic information with the second device includes exchanging the first connection authorization token with a second connection authorization token generated by the second device; and the one or more non-transitory computer-readable media further comprises additional computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first device to perform additional operations comprising, prior to receiving the broadcast, transmitting, by the first device to the second device, a connection request to form a connection between the first device and the second device, wherein: the connection request includes an identifier corresponding to the first connection authorization token; and receiving the broadcast is in response to the connection request and based at least in part on the identifier and first connection authorization token. 14 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the identifier includes a hardware address of the first device. 15 . The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 10 further comprising additional computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the first device to perform additional operations comprising, during the first time period: prior to generating the first cryptographic information, generating, by the first device, first randomized data; and exchanging, by the first device with the second device, the first randomized data with second randomized data generated by the second device, wherein the shared data is based at least in part on the first randomized data and the second randomized data. 16 . A first device comprising: a memory comprising computer-executable instructions; and a processor configured to access the memory and execute the computer-executable instructions to perform operations comprising: generating, by the first device, during a first time period, first cryptographic information based at least in part on shared data that is shared between the first device and a second device; exchanging, by the first device with the second device, the first cryptographic information with second cryptographic information generated by the second device based on the shared data; receiving, by the first device from the second device, during a second time period, a broadcast including first information; generating, by the first
