A powderous positive electrode material comprises single crystal monolithic particles comprising Ni and Co and having a general formula Li1+a(Niz(Ni1/2Mn1/2)yCox)1−kAk)1−aO2, wherein A is a dopant, −0.03≤a≤0.06, 0.05≤x≤0.35, 0.10≤z≤0.95, x+y+z=1 and k≤0.05. The particles have a particle size distribution with a D50 between 2.0 μm and 8.0 μm and with a span≤1.5.

A powderous positive electrode material comprising single crystal monolithic particles comprising Ni and Co and having a general formula Li 1+a ((Ni z (Ni 1/2 Mn 1/2 ) y CO x ) 1−k A k ) 1−a O 2 , wherein A is a dopant, −0.03≤a≤0.06, 0.05≤x≤0.35, 0.10≤z≤0.95, x+y+z=1 and k≤0.05, the particles having a particle size distribution with a D50 between 2.0 μm and 8.0 μm, and with a span≤1.5. 2 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein the dopant comprises one or more of Al, Mg, Zr, Nb, Si, P, Mo, Ba, Sr, Ca, Zn, Cr, V, and Ti. 3 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein the span is 0.9-1.3. 4 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein the single crystal monolithic particles have surfaces covered by Al. 5 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein k=0. 6 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein 0.38≤z≤0.83. 7 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein 0.14≤x≤0.24. 8 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein the carbon concentration is ≤195 ppm. 9 . The powderous positive electrode material of claim 1 , wherein the D50 between 3.2 μm and 6.5 μm.
