Official abstract text for this publication.
An electronic device displays a messaging user interface, including a conversation transcript of a messaging session between a user of the electronic device and another user, and a representation of a media item. The messaging session is configured to allow synchronized viewing of the media item by the user and the other user. In response to receiving a request for synchronized viewing, the electronic device initiates playback of content corresponding to the media item and displays the playback of the content at a fixed position relative to a portion of the messaging user interface. While displaying the content playback, the electronic device displays messages exchanged between the user and the other user below the displayed content playback. In response to detecting an end of the content corresponding to the media item, the electronic device ceases to display the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method, comprising: at a first electronic device having one or more processors, memory, a touch-sensitive surface, and a display: displaying, on the display, a messaging user interface, the messaging user interface including a conversation transcript of a messaging session between a user of the first electronic device and at least one other user, wherein: the conversation transcript includes a representation of a media item that is displayed at a chronological position within the conversation transcript, and the messaging session is configured to allow synchronized viewing of the media item by the user at the first electronic device and the at least one other user at a second electronic device that is distinct from the first electronic device; receiving a first request for synchronized viewing of the media item within the messaging user interface; in response to receiving the first request, initiating playback of content corresponding to the media item; after initiating playback of the content corresponding to the media item, displaying playback of the content corresponding to the media item at a fixed position that is defined relative to a portion of the messaging user interface; while displaying playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position: displaying messages exchanged between the user and the at least one other user below the displayed playback of the content corresponding to the media item; detecting an end of the content corresponding to the media item; and in response to detecting the end of the content corresponding to the media item, ceasing to display the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position. 2 . The method of claim 1 , including: receiving an indication that the at least one other user has manipulated the playback of the content corresponding to the media item; and, in response to receiving the indication, modifying presentation of the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the first electronic device in accordance with the manipulations from the at least one other user. 3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the manipulations include fast-forwarding the playback of the content, rewinding the playback of the content, and/or pausing the playback of the content. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the media item is added to the conversation transcript by the user. 5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the representation of the media item is added to the conversation transcript by the at least one other user. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request is received via the second electronic device. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first request is received via the user at the first electronic device. 8 . The method of claim 1 , including: before displaying the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position: displaying messages exchanged between the user and the at least one other user within the messaging user interface, wherein displaying the messages includes displaying the messages under the displayed playback of the content corresponding to the media item, such that a position within the messaging user interface of the playback of the content corresponding to the media item moves towards a top portion of the messaging user interface as newly exchanged messages are displayed; and in accordance with a determination that the chronological position is within a predetermined distance of the top portion of the messaging user interface, displaying the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position within the messaging user interface. 9 . The method of claim 1 , including: while displaying the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position, detecting an input; in response to detecting the input, scrolling the conversation transcript; and while scrolling the conversation transcript, in accordance with a determination that the chronological position of the media item is within a predetermined distance of the fixed position, moving the displayed playback of the content to the chronological position while continuing to playback the content. 10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the end of the playback of the of the content corresponds to receiving a request to end playback of the content. 11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein detecting the end of the playback of the content corresponds to reaching an end of the content corresponding to the media item. 12 . A first electronic device, comprising: a display; a touch-sensitive surface; one or more processors; and memory storing one or more programs configured to be executed by the one or more processors, the one or more programs including instructions for: displaying, on the display, a messaging user interface, the messaging user interface including a conversation transcript of a messaging session between a user of the first electronic device and at least one other user, wherein: the conversation transcript includes a representation of a media item that is displayed at a chronological position within the conversation transcript, and the messaging sessions is configured to allow synchronized viewing of the media item by the user at the first electronic device and the at least one other user at a second electronic device that is distinct from the first electronic device; receiving a first request for synchronized viewing of the media item within the messaging user interface; in response to receiving the first request, initiating playback of content corresponding to the media item while the representation of the media item is displayed at the chronological position within the conversation transcript; after initiating playback of the content corresponding to the media item, displaying the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at a fixed position within the messaging user interface that is different than the chronological position; while displaying the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position: displaying messages exchanged between the user and the at least one other user below the displayed playback of the content corresponding to the media item; detecting an end of the content corresponding to the media item; and in response to detecting the end of the content corresponding to the media item, ceasing to display the content corresponding to the media item at the fixed position. 13 . The first electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the one or more programs include instructions for: receiving an indication that the at least one other user has manipulated the playback of the content corresponding to the media item; and, in response to receiving the indication, modifying presentation of the playback of the content corresponding to the media item at the electronic device in accordance with the manipulations from the at least one other user. 14 . The first electronic device of claim 13 , wherein the manipulations include fast-forwarding the playback of the content, rewinding the playback of the content, and/or pausing the playback of the content. 15 . The first electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the representation of the media item is added to the conversation transcript by the user. 16 . The first electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the representation of the media item is added to the conversation transcript by the at least one other user. 17 . The first elec
