Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A conveyor assembly includes a conveyor module including first and second roller bodies and a conveyor belt; a chassis; and a tensioning system. The tensioning system is operable to adjust the tension of the conveyor belt and includes a tensioning device selectively shiftably mounted to the chassis such that shifting of the tensioning system in the fore-aft direction along the chassis results in corresponding fore-aft shifting of the first roller body relative to the second roller body, thereby facilitating adjustment of the tension of the conveyor belt. The chassis includes a pair of side rails and a slider bed. A stiffening assembly includes a bracket spaced vertically below the slider bed such that a vertical gap is formed between the slider bed and the bracket. The stiffening assembly further includes an insert disposed on the bracket and extending upward across at least a portion of the gap.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1 . A conveyor assembly comprising: a conveyor module including— a first roller assembly including a first roller body rotatable about a first axis, a second roller assembly spaced from the first roller assembly in a fore-aft direction and including a second roller body rotatable about a second axis, and a conveyor belt shiftable in response to rotation of at least one of said first and second roller bodies; a chassis supporting the conveyor module and defining a roller assembly slot that extends in the fore-aft direction; and a tensioning system operable to adjust the tension of the conveyor belt, said tensioning system including a tensioning device coupled to the first roller assembly, a first roller portion of said first roller assembly extending into the roller assembly slot and being shiftable therein in the fore-aft direction, said tensioning system being selectively shiftably mounted to the chassis such that shifting of the tensioning system in the fore-aft direction along the chassis results in corresponding fore-aft shifting of the first roller portion in the roller assembly slot and of the first roller body relative to the second roller body, thereby facilitating adjustment of the tension of the conveyor belt. 2 . The conveyor assembly of claim 1 , said tensioning device including a sliding bracket mounted to the first roller assembly such that the sliding bracket and the first roller body are immovable relative to each other in the fore-aft direction, said sliding bracket being shiftable in the fore-aft direction along the chassis. 3 . The conveyor assembly of claim 2 , said sliding bracket defining a roller assembly opening, said first roller portion extending into the roller assembly opening. 4 . The conveyor assembly of claim 3 , said first roller portion comprising a first roller shaft, said first roller shaft extending into the roller assembly opening. 5 . The conveyor assembly of claim 4 , said first roller shaft further extending into the roller assembly slot. 6 . The conveyor assembly of claim 5 , said first roller shaft including an adjustment end projecting laterally outward of said chassis, said adjustment end facilitating positioning of the tensioning device. 7 . The conveyor assembly of claim 1 , said first roller portion comprising a first roller shaft, said first roller shaft extending into the roller assembly slot. 8 . The conveyor assembly of claim 1 , said tensioning device including a positioning fastener assembly, a first one of said chassis and said tensioning device defining a fastener-receiving slot extending in the fore-aft direction, and a second one of said chassis and said tensioning device defining a fastener-receiving opening, with shifting of the tensioning device relative to the chassis adjusting the position of the fastener-receiving opening relative to the fastener-receiving slot, said positioning fastener assembly extending through the fastener-receiving slot and the fastener-receiving opening and operable to selectively secure the bracket to the side rail. 9 . The conveyor assembly of claim 8 , said tensioning device including a sliding bracket defining the fastener-receiving opening, said chassis including a side rail defining the fastener-receiving slot. 10 . The conveyor assembly of claim 8 , said positioning fastener assembly including a positioning fastener comprising a positioning head and a threaded positioning shaft, said fastener-receiving opening being a threaded opening, said positioning shaft extending through the fastener-receiving slot and into the fastener-receiving opening such that selective rotation of the threaded positioning shaft relative to the fastener-receiving opening enables lateral shifting of the positioning head toward the chassis and the tensioning device and selective securement of the tensioning device to the chassis. 11 . The conveyor assembly of claim 1 , said conveyor assembly configured for use with a mobile vehicle, said chassis being a vehicle chassis, said conveyor assembly further comprising a power module providing rotational power to at least one of said first and second roller bodies. 12 . A conveyor assembly comprising: a conveyor module including— a first roller assembly including a first roller body rotatable about a first axis, a second roller assembly spaced from the first roller assembly in a fore-aft direction and including a second roller body rotatable about a second axis, and a conveyor belt shiftable in response to rotation of at least one of said first and second roller bodies; a chassis supporting the conveyor module; and a tensioning system operable to adjust the tension of the conveyor belt, said tensioning system including a tensioning device coupled to the first roller assembly, said tensioning system being selectively shiftably mounted to the chassis such that shifting of the tensioning system in the fore-aft direction along the chassis results in corresponding fore-aft shifting of the first roller body relative to the second roller body, thereby facilitating adjustment of the tension of the conveyor belt, said first roller assembly including an adjustment end projecting laterally outward of said chassis and said tensioning device to facilitate shifting of the tensioning device along the chassis. 13 . The conveyor assembly of claim 12 , said tensioning device including a sliding bracket mounted to the first roller assembly such that the sliding bracket and the first roller body are immovable relative to each other in the fore-aft direction, said sliding bracket being shiftable in the fore-aft direction along the chassis. 14 . The conveyor assembly of claim 13 , said sliding bracket defining a roller assembly opening, said first roller assembly including a first roller shaft, a first roller portion of said first roller shaft extending into the roller assembly opening. 15 . The conveyor assembly of claim 14 , said chassis defining a roller assembly slot, said first roller portion further extending through the roller assembly slot and defining the adjustment end therepast. 16 . The conveyor assembly of claim 15 , said chassis including a side rail extending in the fore-aft direction, said side rail defining the roller assembly slot. 17 . The conveyor assembly of claim 12 , said tensioning device including a positioning fastener assembly, a first one of said chassis and said tensioning device defining a fastener-receiving slot extending in the fore-aft direction, and a second one of said chassis and said tensioning device defining a fastener-receiving opening, with shifting of the tensioning device relative to the chassis adjusting the position of the fastener-receiving opening relative to the fastener-receiving slot, said positioning fastener assembly extending through the fastener-receiving slot and the fastener-receiving opening and operable to selectively secure the bracket to the side rail. 18 . The conveyor assembly of claim 17 , said tensioning device defining the fastener-receiving opening, said chassis defining the fastener-receiving slot. 19 . The conveyor assembly of claim 12 , said conveyor assembly configured for use with a mobile vehicle, said chassis being a vehicle chassis, said conveyor assembly further comprising a power module providing rotational power to at least one of said first and second roller bodies.
