Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Embodiments of the present disclosure are related a method for wireless communication. The method comprises receiving by a base station (BS), signals from a plurality of user equipment's (UEs) and obtaining channel estimates associated with each UE using the received signals. Next, calculating a first metric for each UE, and each of the plurality of beams associated with the BS using the obtained channel estimates and determining one or more best beams from a plurality of beams associated with the BS, and a second metric for each UE using the first metric. Further, segregating the UEs into groups based on the determined one or more best beams and the second metric. Thereafter, performing beamforming on control channel based on the one or more best beams, and performing allocation of at least one of resources, modulation and coding scheme for a control channel based on the segregated groups.

What is claimed is: 1 - 15 . (canceled) 16 . A base station (BS), the BS comprising: a channel estimator operable to generate a channel estimate and a metric for each of a plurality of user equipment devices (UEs); a distributor operable to group each of the plurality of UEs into one of a plurality of groups according to the corresponding channel estimate and the corresponding metric, wherein each group is associated with a control channel having a particular modulation and coding scheme (MCS); and a beamformer operable to transmit one or more control channels according to one or more beams. 17 . The BS of claim 16 , wherein: a first group of UEs is associated with a metric that is greater than a threshold value, and a second group of UEs is associated with a metric that is less than the threshold value. 18 . The BS of claim 16 , wherein: the beamformer is operable to beamform with a predetermined beam pattern that is selected according to the metric. 19 . The BS of claim 16 , wherein: the BS is configured to communicate with a group of UEs via a particular set of resources, and the BS is configured to communicate with a different group of UEs via a different set of resources. 20 . The BS of claim 19 , wherein: the particular set of resources is used for scheduling a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH). 21 . The BS of claim 19 , wherein: the particular set of resources corresponds to a time resource and a frequency resource. 22 . A method, the method comprising: in a base station (BS): generating a channel estimate and a metric for each of a plurality of user equipment devices (UEs); grouping each of the plurality of UEs into one of a plurality of groups according to the channel estimate and the metric, wherein the group is associated with a control channel having a particular modulation and coding scheme (MCS); and transmitting one or more control channels according to one or more beams. 23 . The method of claim 22 , wherein: a first group of UEs is associated with a metric that is greater than a threshold value, and a second group of UEs is associated with a metric that is less than the threshold value. 24 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the method comprises: beamforming with a predetermined beam pattern that is selected according to the metric. 25 . The method of claim 22 , wherein the method comprises: communicating with a group of UEs via a particular set of resources, and communicating with a different group of UEs via a different set of resources. 26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the method comprises: scheduling a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) according to the particular set of resources. 27 . The method of claim 25 , wherein: the particular set of resources corresponds to a time resource and a frequency resource.
