Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present invention relates to a system for performing assays on a solid phase to measure the level of analyte in a sample. Such a system may perform immunoassays using electrochemiluminescence (ECL) including a counterbalanced orbital shaking apparatus for assay consumables. The counterbalanced orbital shaking apparatus also incubates the assay consumables, and has a cooling system to maintain a preset temperature within the shaking apparatus.

1 - 10 . (canceled) 11 . A housing, comprising: a blower; a hood; a chimney; and at least one cooler located proximate to a surface of the housing; wherein the blower is configured to pull air through at least one airflow channel disposed within an incubator; further wherein said air is pulled from the housing by the blower, ducted through the hood and the chimney to an inlet, and returned to the housing. 12 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein said air is blown by the at least one cooler through a plenum into the housing. 13 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein a temperature sensor connected to the at least one cooler is positioned proximate to an entrance of the at least one airflow channel. 14 . The housing of claim 13 , wherein said temperature sensor is a thermostat of the at least one cooler. 15 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein said air ducted through the hood and the chimney to the inlet is cooled by the at least one cooler and returned to an upper chamber of the housing via a plenum. 16 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein the hood is positioned above the blower, and said air is ducted to the inlet through the hood. 17 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein the housing further encloses a pipette dispenser, and a plurality of multi-well plates adapted to hold electrochemiluminescence (ECL) complexes attached to electrodes contained in the plurality of multi-well plates. 18 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein the chimney is connected to the hood. 19 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein the surface of the housing is a back surface. 20 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein the inlet is disposed within the at least one cooler. 21 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein said air is pulled through the at least one cooler to cool said air. 22 . The housing of claim 11 , wherein said air returned to the housing is cooled air. 23 . A system, comprising: a housing further including: a blower; a hood; a chimney; at least one cooler located proximate to a surface of the housing; and an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) reader; wherein the blower is configured to pull air through at least one airflow channel disposed within an incubator; further wherein said air is pulled from the housing by the blower, ducted through the hood and the chimney to an inlet, and returned to the housing; and wherein said air is cooled by the at least one cooler and returned into the housing via a plenum. 24 . The system of claim 23 , further including a temperature sensor connected to the at least one cooler, the temperature sensor disposed proximate to an entrance of the at least one airflow channel. 25 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the housing further includes a plurality of multi-well plates configured to hold electrochemiluminescence (ECL) complexes attached to electrodes contained in the plurality of multi-well plates. 26 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the chimney is connected to the hood. 27 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the surface of the housing is a back surface. 28 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the inlet is disposed within the at least one cooler. 29 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the air is pulled through the at least one cooler to cool said air. 30 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the air returned to the housing is cooled air.
