What is claimed is: 1 . A method of treating a chronic subclinical inflammation of a uterine lining in a subject comprising: a) obtaining an identification of the subject as in need of treatment of chronic subclinical inflammation, wherein the subject has been identified so by: maintaining a stromal fibroblast cell (SFC), obtained from a menstrual discharge sample from the subject, under conditions permitting decidualization, quantifying a rate or extent of decidualization of the stromal fibroblast cell, and comparing the rate of decidualization to a control value of decidualization indicative of a subject without endometriosis, wherein a rate or extent of decidualization of the stromal fibroblast cell which is less than that of the control value of decidualization indicates that the subject has chronic subclinical inflammation; and b) treating the subject so-identified as having chronic subclinical inflammation by administering an amount of a small molecule or biologic anti-inflammatory agent effective to treat chronic subclinical inflammation of the uterine lining. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the menstrual discharge sample comprises menstrual blood. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the menstrual discharge sample has been obtained via a menstrual cup or polyether polyurethane menstrual sponge. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the stromal fibroblast cell is contacted with 8-Br-CAMP and one or more hormones to effect decidualization. 5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the one or more hormones comprise 17-beta estradiol and medroxyprogesterone. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the rate or extent of decidualization is quantified by measuring IGFBP-1 production by the stromal fibroblast cell. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the SFC is identified so as being: CD45−/CD326−/CD31−/CD90+/CD105+/CD73+. 8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the SFC is also CD140b+. 9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the anti-inflammatory agent that targets TNF-alpha or IL-1beta. 10 . A kit for diagnosing a chronic subclinical inflammation of a uterine lining for subsequent treatment, the kit comprising a menstrual cup or polyether polyurethane menstrual sponge, and reagents for maintaining a stromal fibroblast cell (SFC), obtained from a menstrual discharge sample from a subject, under conditions that do not damage decidualization of the SFC.
