Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

According to one embodiment, provided is an active material that includes a secondary particle containing a plurality of primary particles containing a niobium-containing oxide. The secondary particle includes adjacent sections at which the primary particles are adjacent to each other and necking sections in which the primary particles are joined to each other. A total perimeter L of the primary particles and a sum Lcl of perimeters of the primary particles excluding the necking sections satisfy a relationship of 0.1<(L−Lcl)/L≤0.6.

What is claimed is: 1 . An active material comprising a secondary particle containing a plurality of primary particles containing a niobium-containing oxide, the secondary particle comprising adjacent sections at which the primary particles are adjacent to each other and necking sections in which the primary particles are joined to each other, and a total perimeter L of the primary particles and a sum L cl of perimeters of the primary particles excluding the necking sections satisfying a relationship of 0.1<(L−L cl )/L≤0.6. 2 . The active material according to claim 1 , wherein a crystallite size of the niobium-containing oxide is 10 nm to 300 nm, an average particle size of the primary particles is within a range of 0.5 μm to 3 μm, and a grain boundary is formed between crystallites, the grain boundary containing the same niobium as that of a parent phase and one or more elements selected from the group consisting of P, K, and Fe. 3 . The active material according to claim 2 , wherein a concentration of the element (s) in the grain boundary is 20% or more higher than that in the parent phase. 4 . An electrode comprising the active material according to claim 1 . 5 . The electrode according to claim 4 , wherein the electrode comprises an active material-containing layer containing the active material. 6 . A secondary battery comprising: a positive electrode; a negative electrode containing a negative electrode active material; and an electrolyte, the negative electrode active material comprising a secondary particle containing a plurality of primary particles containing a niobium-containing oxide, the secondary particle comprising first adjacent sections at which the primary particles are adjacent to each other and second adjacent sections at which the primary particles are in contact with each other via each interface thereof, and a total perimeter L of the primary particles and a sum L cl of perimeters of the primary particles excluding the second adjacent sections satisfying a relationship of 0.1<(L−L cl )/L≤0.6. 7 . A battery pack comprising the secondary battery according to claim 6 . 8 . The battery pack according to claim 7 , further comprising: an external power distribution terminal; and a protective circuit. 9 . The battery pack according to claim 7 , comprising plural of the secondary battery, the secondary batteries being electrically connected in series, in parallel, or in combination of in-series connection and in-parallel connection. 10 . A vehicle comprising the battery pack according to claim 7 . 11 . The vehicle according to claim 10 , wherein the vehicle comprises a mechanism configured to convert kinetic energy of the vehicle into regenerative energy.
