Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An installation tool comprising a tool body, a control shaft disposed at least partially within the tool body, a tool interface coupled to the tool body, and a control plate housed within the tool interface. The tool comprising a body member coupled with the tool interface, the body member including a channel to receive a barb, a retention member to engage the barb to position the barb within the channel, and an interface to engage a surface of an implant to align the implant relative to the body member. The tool comprising a first arm and a second arm that are movable between a first configuration and a second configuration, where in the first configuration the first and second arms extend laterally away from the tool interface, and in the second configuration the first and second arms engage the tool interface and are configured to secure the implant.

What is claimed: 1 . An installation tool comprising: a tool body having a first end and a second end; a control shaft disposed at least partially within the tool body, the control shaft having a first end and a second end; a tool interface coupled to the second end of the tool body; a control plate housed within the tool interface, the control plate coupled with the second end of the control shaft; a first body member coupled with the tool interface, the first body member including: a channel to receive a barb; a retention member to engage the barb to position the barb within the channel; and a first interface to engage a surface of an implant to align the implant relative to the first body member; and a first arm and a second arm coupled with the tool interface, wherein the first arm and the second arm are movable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the first arm and the second arm extend laterally away from the tool interface and in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm engage the tool interface, wherein in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm are configured to secure the implant. 2 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the channel is a curved channel extending from a first open end to a second rear end, the second rear end including an aperture extending through the first body member. 3 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the retention member includes a latch to engage a groove at a head of the barb to position the barb within the channel. 4 . The installation tool of claim 3 , wherein the first body member includes a retention aperture extending through the first body member and in connection with the channel, wherein the latch is received by the retention aperture and extends into the channel. 5 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein in response to a force being applied to the barb, the retention member disengages the barb to permit the barb to move from the channel. 6 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the first interface is a planar surface positioned at an open end of the channel, wherein the first interface engages a planar surface of a body of the implant to align the implant relative to the first body member. 7 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the first interface is a curved surface positioned at an open end of the channel, wherein the first interface engages a curved surface of a channel of the implant to align the implant relative to the first body member. 8 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the first body member further includes a second interface, wherein the first interface and the second interface are positioned on opposing sides of an open end of the channel, and wherein the first interface is a planar surface and the second interface is a curved surface. 9 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the first body member further includes a plurality of restraint projections, each of the plurality of restraint projections positioned a distance from an open end of the channel and extending in a direction parallel with the first interface. 10 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein the channel includes a curved bottom surface, the curved bottom surface to engage a chambered edge of a head of the barb. 11 . The installation tool of claim 1 , further comprising a second body member and a third body member coupled with the tool interface, each of the second body member and the third body member including: a channel to receive a barb; a retention member to engage the barb to position the barb within the channel; and a body interface to engage a surface of the implant to align the implant relative to the tool interface, wherein the first body member is coupled with the tool interface between the second body member and the third body member. 12 . The installation tool of claim 11 , wherein in each of the first body member, the second body member, and the third body member, the channel is a curved channel extending from a first open end to a second rear end, and wherein the channels of the second body member and the third body member are aligned. 13 . The installation tool of claim 12 , wherein the curved channel of the first body member is inverted relative to the curved channels of the second body member and the third body member. 14 . The installation tool of claim 1 , wherein in response to a first manipulation of the control shaft, the control shaft translates within the tool body toward the first end of the tool body and the control plate translates within the tool interface toward the first body member, and wherein in response to the first manipulation of the control shaft the first arm and the second arm are in the first configuration. 15 . The installation tool of claim 2 , wherein in response to a second manipulation of the control shaft, the control shaft translates within the tool body toward the second end of the tool body and the control plate translates within the tool interface away from the first body member, and wherein in response to the second manipulation of the control shaft the first arm and the second arm are in the second configuration. 16 . A kit comprising: an implant; one or more barbs including a first barb, the first barb comprising a head having a top surface, a tip, a curved shaft extending between the head and the tip, and a threaded bore extending into the head, wherein the threaded bore defines a bore axis and extends into the head at an angle relative to an axis that is perpendicular to the top surface; and an installation tool comprising: a tool body having a first end and a second end; a control shaft disposed at least partially within the tool body, the control shaft having a first end and a second end; a tool interface coupled to the second end of the tool body; a control plate housed within the tool interface, the control plate coupled with the second end of the control shaft; a first body member coupled with the tool interface, the first body member including: a channel to receive the first barb; a retention member to engage the first barb to position the first barb within the channel; and a first interface to engage a surface of the implant to align the implant relative to the first body member; and a first arm and a second arm coupled with the tool interface, wherein the first arm and the second arm are movable between a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein in the first configuration the first arm and the second arm extend laterally away from the tool interface and in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm engage the tool interface, wherein in the second configuration the first arm and the second arm are configured to secure the implant. 17 .
