What is claimed is: 1 . An electric vehicle comprising: a first electric drive comprising: a first wheel; a second wheel; a first motor coupled to the first wheel; and a second motor coupled to the second wheel; a second electric drive comprising: a third wheel; a fourth wheel; a third motor coupled to the third wheel; and a fourth motor coupled to the fourth wheel; and a combined drive control system configured to: receive input data signals, the input data signals including a signal representing a drive mode selection received from a driver; and activate both the first electric drive and the second electric drive based on the received input data signals. 2 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , wherein: the first wheel and the second wheel of the first electric drive comprise front wheels of the electric vehicle; and the third wheel and the fourth wheel of the second electric drive comprise rear wheels of the electric vehicle. 3 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the combined drive control system is configured to activate both the first electric drive and the second electric drive based on the received input data signals by controlling output torque of each one of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor. 4 . The electric vehicle of claim 3 , wherein activating both the first electric drive and the second electric drive selectively changes the electric vehicle from a 2-wheel-drive vehicle to an all-wheel-drive vehicle by controlling the output torque of each one of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor. 5 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising a propulsive battery configured to provide power to each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor. 6 . The electric vehicle of claim 5 , wherein: the first electric drive further comprises: a first inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the first motor; and a second inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the second motor; and the second electric drive further comprises: a third inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the third motor; and a fourth inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the fourth motor. 7 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , further comprising: a transmission, wherein the first motor is configured to provide output power to the first wheel through the transmission and the second motor is configured to provide output power to the second wheel through the transmission. 8 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor includes a motor temperature sensor. 9 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , wherein each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor includes a motor position sensor. 10 . The electric vehicle of claim 1 , wherein the drive mode selection comprises a high-performance mode selection received at the combined drive control system from the driver via a vehicle interface unit. 11 . An electric vehicle comprising: a first electric drive comprising: a first wheel; a second wheel; a first motor configured to power the first wheel; a second motor configured to power the second wheel; a second electric drive comprising: a third wheel; a fourth wheel; a third motor configured to power the third wheel; and a fourth motor configured to power the fourth wheel; and a combined drive control system configured to: control output torque of each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor; and selectively change the electric vehicle from a 2-wheel-drive vehicle to an all-wheel-drive vehicle by changing the output torque of each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor. 12 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , wherein: the first wheel and the second wheel of the first electric drive comprise front wheels of the electric vehicle; and the third wheel and the fourth wheel of the second electric drive comprise rear wheels of the electric vehicle. 13 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , wherein the first and second motors of the first electric drive comprise traction motors. 14 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , wherein the third and fourth motors of the second electric drive comprise hub-motors. 15 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , further comprising a propulsive battery configured to provide power to each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor. 16 . The electric vehicle of claim 15 , wherein: the first electric drive further comprises: a first inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the first motor; and a second inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the second motor; and the second electric drive further comprises: a third inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the third motor; and a fourth inverter configured to receive power from the battery and output power to the fourth motor. 17 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , further comprising: a transmission, wherein the first motor is configured to provide output power to the first wheel through the transmission and the second motor is configured to provide output power to the second wheel through the transmission. 18 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , wherein each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor includes a motor temperature sensor. 19 . The electric vehicle of claim 11 , wherein each of the first motor, the second motor, the third motor, and the fourth motor includes a motor position sensor.
