A fluid injector system for delivering a multi-phase fluid injection to a patient and methods of fluid delivery is disclosed. Methods of creating and using a multi-aspect fluid path impedance model of the injector system are used. Modeling and adjustment of factors that affect impedance and prevent or reduce backflow, reduce the likelihood of fluid flow rate spikes and provide more accurate flow rates and mixing ratios of fluids may be repeated or happen essentially continuously during an injection. The adjustments may be determined before the injection or determined and/or adjusted during the injection. The determination may include sensor feedback commonly used in injectors such as pressure and position feedback as well as other sensors. In all cases, the user can be notified of adjustments through on-screen notices and/or through the recordation of the injection data by a control device of the injector at the conclusion of the injection.

What is claimed is: 1 .- 20 . (canceled) 21 . A method of delivering fluid to a patient using a fluid injector, the method comprising: determining, with a controller, an injection pressure based on a programmed injection protocol prior to performing the programmed injection protocol; generating, with the controller, an impedance model based on the injection pressure to determine pressure loss expected during performance of the programmed injection protocol due to system impedance; determining, with the controller, a modified injection pressure based on the injection pressure and an impedance correction factor generated in the impedance model; and performing the programmed injection protocol using the modified injection pressure. 22 . The method according to claim 21 , wherein generating the impedance model comprises: determining, with the controller, a pressure drop across the fluid path element at the injection pressure, and determining, with the controller, pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction at the injection pressure. 23 . The method according to claim 22 , wherein the pressure drop across the fluid path element is determined based on one or more characteristics of the fluid path element. 24 . The method according to claim 22 , wherein the impedance correction factor is a sum of the pressure drop across the fluid path element and the pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction. 25 . The method according to claim 22 , wherein the injection pressure and the pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction are determined using motor current measurements. 26 . The method according to claim 21 , further comprising: determining, with the controller, a syringe capacitance at the injection pressure; and adjusting the modified injection pressure based on the syringe capacitance. 27 . The method according to claim 26 , wherein the syringe capacitance is determined from a model of system capacitance as a function of: pressure within a syringe; and position of a plunger within the syringe. 28 . The method according to claim 26 , wherein adjusting the modified injection pressure comprises increasing the modified injection pressure. 29 . The method according to claim 21 , wherein the modified injection pressure is set as a pressure limit during performance of the programmed injection protocol. 30 . A fluid delivery system configured for delivering fluid to a patient, the fluid delivery system comprising: a fluid injector configured for receiving at least one syringe filled with the fluid; a drive member for reciprocally moving a piston of the at least one syringe; and a controller operatively connected to the drive member, the controller comprising instructions that, when executed, cause the controller to: determine an injection pressure based on a programmed injection protocol prior to performing the programmed injection protocol; generate an impedance model based on the injection pressure to determine pressure loss expected during performance of the programmed injection protocol due to system impedance; determine a modified injection pressure based on the injection pressure and an impedance correction factor generated in the impedance model; and perform the programmed injection protocol using the modified injection pressure. 31 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 30 , wherein the impedance model is generated by: determining, with the controller, a pressure drop across the fluid path element at the injection pressure, and determining, with the controller, pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction at the injection pressure. 32 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 31 , wherein the pressure drop across the fluid path element is determined based on one or more characteristics of the fluid path element. 33 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 31 , wherein the impedance correction factor is a sum of the pressure drop across the fluid path element and the pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction. 34 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 31 , wherein the injection pressure and the pressure loss due to syringe plunger running friction are determined using motor current measurements. 35 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 21 , wherein the controller is further configured to: determine a syringe capacitance at the injection pressure; and adjust the modified injection pressure based on the syringe capacitance. 36 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 35 , wherein the syringe capacitance is determined from a model of system capacitance as a function of: pressure within a syringe; and position of a plunger within the syringe. 37 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 35 wherein adjusting the modified injection pressure comprises increasing the modified injection pressure. 38 . The fluid delivery system according to claim 21 , wherein the modified injection pressure is set as a pressure limit during performance of the programmed injection protocol.
