Provided is a machine tool and a method for controlling the machine tool capable of precisely determine a success or a failure of a cut-off. An NC lathe performs a cut-off of a workpiece gripped by a first spindle and a second spindle and then performs a separation movement of the second spindle in a direction separating from the first spindle. The NC lathe includes a movement controlling unit adapted to perform a stop control of the first spindle at a command position of the first spindle during the separation movement of the second spindle and a cut-off success or failure determining unit adapted to monitor a positional deviation of the first spindle during the separation movement of the second spindle to determine a success or a failure of the cut-off, the positional deviation being a difference between the command position and an actual position of the first spindle.

What is claimed is: 1 . A machine tool comprising a first spindle capable of moving in an axis direction thereof and a second spindle capable of moving to a position facing the first spindle, the machine tool capable of performing a cut-off of a workpiece gripped by the first spindle and the second spindle and then performing a separation movement of the second spindle in a direction separating from the first spindle, the machine tool comprising: a movement controlling unit adapted to perform a stop control of the first spindle at a command position of the first spindle during the separation movement of the second spindle; and a cut-off success or failure determining unit adapted to monitor a positional deviation of the first spindle during the separation movement of the second spindle to determine a success or a failure of the cut-off, the positional deviation being a difference between the command position and an actual position of the first spindle. 2 . The machine tool according to claim 1 , wherein, the cut-off success or failure determining unit determines a failure of the cut-off when an amount of difference of the positional deviation from a reference deviation exceeds a predetermined amount, the reference deviation being the positional deviation of the first spindle immediately before the separation movement of the second spindle. 3 . A method for controlling a machine tool provided with a first spindle capable of moving in an axis direction thereof and a second spindle capable of moving to a position facing the first spindle to grip a workpiece and moving in a direction separating from the first spindle, the method comprising: performing a cut-off of the workpiece gripped by the first spindle and the second spindle; performing a stop control of the first spindle at a command position after the cut-off and then performing a separation movement of the second spindle in the direction separating from the first spindle; and monitoring a positional deviation of the first spindle during the separation movement of the second spindle and determining a success or a failure of the cut off according to the positional deviation, the positional deviation being a difference between the command position and an actual position of the first spindle. 4 . The method for controlling a machine tool according to claim 3 , further comprising a grip force preliminarily determining step to be executed before performing the cut-off, the grip force preliminarily determining step comprising stopping the first spindle and moving the second spindle in the direction separating from the first spindle while gripping the workpiece by the first spindle and the second spindle, monitoring another positional deviation of the first spindle, and determining whether or not a grip force of the second spindle is sufficient according to the positional deviation.
