Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system and method for targeted neurological therapy using a primary task and a plurality of associative activities, wherein the associative activities provide social engagement as a therapeutic element. The system and method receive various biometric data associated with an individual performing a multiple-task stimulation therapy regimen, computes a performance score for the individual, and makes adjustments to the therapy regimen based on the performance score. In some implementations, the system is supported by one or more machine learning predictive models configured to generate therapy regimen adjustment recommendations.

What is claimed is: 1 . A system for targeted neurological therapy, comprising: a computing device comprising a memory, a processor, and a non-volatile data storage device; a physical activity data capture device, configured to capture biometric data of an individual; and a software application, comprising a first plurality of programming instructions stored in the memory and operating on the processor, wherein the first plurality of programming instructions, when operating on the processor, causes the computing device to: select a primary task; select a plurality of associative activities; assign a multiple-task stimulation for the individual to perform, the multiple-task stimulation comprising the primary task and the plurality of associative activities; while the individual is performing the multiple-task stimulation: receive biometric data from the physical activity data capture device; compute a performance score; adjust at least one of the plurality of associative activities based on the performance score. 2 . The system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more stimulation transducers that apply a selected neurological therapy according to a stored stimulation configuration. 3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the stimulation transducers comprise an electromagnetic transducer, a vibration transducer, or both. 4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the electromagnetic transducer is a light and stimulation is provided using a pattern of multiple configured wavelengths each for a set duration, wherein at least two wavelengths are emitted simultaneously for at least a portion of their respective durations; and wherein the vibration transducer is an audio playback device and stimulation is provided using a pattern of multiple configured frequencies each for a set duration, wherein at least two frequencies are emitted simultaneously for at least a portion of their respective durations. 5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the plurality of associative activities comprises a social interaction, a cooperative activity, an adversarial activity, a facial-cue identification activity, and an imitation activity. 6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the associative activity involves a second individual interacting with the software application. 7 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the associative activity involves a simulated individual operated by the software application. 8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the primary task comprises physical activity on an exercise apparatus. 9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a stationary bicycle, a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, and a stair stepping machine. 10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the biometric data comprises movement data associated with the individual. 11 . A method for targeted neurological therapy, comprising the steps of: selecting a primary task; selecting a plurality of associative activities; assigning a multiple-task stimulation for an individual to perform, the multiple-task stimulation comprising the primary task and the plurality of associative activities; while the individual is performing the multiple-task stimulation: receiving biometric data from a physical activity data capture device; computing a performance score; adjusting at least one of the plurality of associative activities based on the performance score. 12 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising one or more stimulation transducers that apply a selected neurological therapy according to a stored stimulation configuration. 13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein the stimulation transducers comprise an electromagnetic transducer, a vibration transducer, or both. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the electromagnetic transducer is a light and stimulation is provided using a pattern of multiple configured wavelengths each for a set duration, wherein at least two wavelengths are emitted simultaneously for at least a portion of their respective durations; and wherein the vibration transducer is an audio playback device and stimulation is provided using a pattern of multiple configured frequencies each for a set duration, wherein at least two frequencies are emitted simultaneously for at least a portion of their respective durations. 15 . The method of claim 11 , wherein at least one of the plurality of associative activities comprises a social interaction, a cooperative activity, an adversarial activity, a facial-cue identification activity, and an imitation activity. 16 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the associative activity involves a second individual interacting with the software application. 17 . The method of claim 15 , wherein the associative activity involves a simulated individual operated by the software application. 18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the primary task comprises physical activity on an exercise apparatus. 19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the exercise apparatus comprises a stationary bicycle, a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, and a stair stepping machine. 20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the biometric data comprises movement data associated with the individual.
