Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A flow control apparatus includes a body, a door, a drip chamber holster, and a valve. The door is pivotally coupled to the body. The drip chamber holster is coupled to one of the body or the door to retain a drip chamber. The valve is disposed within the body and is configured to receive a fluid line coupled to the drip chamber when the door is in an open position. The valve is operatively coupled to the door to secure the fluid line within the valve when the door is in a closed position.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1 . A flow control apparatus, comprising: a door; and a valve including a first member and a second member that are coupled to the door such that when the door is open, the valve is open to receive a fluid line and when the door is closed, the valve is closed and secures the fluid line. 2 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first member is a first clamshell and the second member is a second clamshell. 3 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising: a filler disposed within the first member and the second member. 4 . The flow control apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the filler has a first layer and a second layer. 5 . The flow control apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first and second layers have different stiffness values. 6 . The flow control apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the first layer has a first shore hardness substantially in a range of 20 to 25 and the second layer has a second shore hardness of about 15. 7 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the first member and the second member includes a hole, and further comprising: a plunger that is translatable through the hole to deform the fluid line. 8 . The flow control apparatus of claim 7 , further comprising: a filler disposed within the first member and the second member and the plunger engages the filler when translated through the hole. 9 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first member is configured to latch onto the second member. 10 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the fluid line is coupled to a drip chamber, and further comprising an image sensor. 11 . The flow control apparatus of claim 10 , wherein a chamber holster is configured to position the drip chamber within a field of view of the image sensor. 12 . The flow control apparatus of claim 11 , further comprising a processor in communication with the image sensor, the processor using image data from the image sensor to estimate at least one parameter of liquid within the drip chamber. 13 . The flow control apparatus of claim 12 , further comprising: an actuator, actuation of the actuator being based in part on the estimated at least one parameter of the liquid. 14 . The flow control apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the at least one parameter is a target flow rate or a target drop-growth rate. 15 . The flow control apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising: a closing arm pivotally coupled to the door and to at least one of the first and second members, the closing arm closing the at least one of the first and second members when the door is being closed. 16 . The flow control apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the closing arm latches the at least one of the first and second members when the door is moved to the closed position. 17 . The flow control apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the closing arm is coupled to the at least one of the first and second members via a latch component. 18 . The flow control apparatus of claim 17 , further comprising: a first latch component coupled to the closing arm and to the first member; and a second latch component coupled to the second member. 19 . The flow control apparatus of claim 18 , wherein when the door is opened, the closing arm is configured to pull on the first latch component thereby causing the first latch component to rotate up and away from the valve to release pressure placed on the valve form the first latch component. 20 . The flow control apparatus of claim 18 , wherein once the first latch component is disengaged from the second latch component, the closing arm pulls open the first and second members as the first latch component is pulled away from the valve.
