A negative electrode for a lithium secondary battery which includes a negative electrode active material layer including a first negative electrode active material particles containing first graphite and an amorphous carbon layer on the surface of the first graphite, and a second negative electrode active material particles containing second graphite and having no carbon layer on the surface of the second graphite. The weight ratio of the first negative electrode active material to the second negative electrode active material is 4:6 to 6:4, and the negative electrode active material layer has a BET specific surface area of 1.1 m 2 /g to 1.7 m 2 /g, and a lithium secondary battery including the same. The lithium secondary battery including the negative electrode for a lithium secondary battery allows quick charging and has improved high-temperature characteristics and safety.
