Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

In general, according to one embodiment, an active material including particles containing a niobium-containing oxide is provided. The particles containing the niobium-containing oxide contain single particles having protruded parts and recessed parts. Three or more of the recessed parts satisfy 0.1≤a/L≤0.5 (1). Where L is a length of a tangent line in contact with a first protruded part and a second protruded part, and a is a maximum length of a perpendicular line from the tangent line to a recessed part defined by the first protruded part and the second protruded part.

What is claimed is: 1 . An active material comprising particles containing a niobium-containing oxide, wherein: the particles containing the niobium-containing oxide comprises a single particle having protruded parts and recessed parts; and three or more of the recessed parts satisfying the following formula (1): 0.1≤ a/L≤ 0.5  (1) wherein L is a length of a tangent line in contact with a first protruded part and a second protruded part; and a is a maximum length of a perpendicular line from the tangent line to a recessed part defined by the first protruded part and the second protruded part. 2 . The active material according to claim 1 , wherein the particles containing the niobium-containing oxide have an average particle size (D50) in a range of 0.5 μm to 6 μm. 3 . The active material according to claim 1 , wherein a content of the particles containing the niobium-containing oxide is in a range of 75% by weight to 100% by weight. 4 . The active material according to claim 1 , wherein the niobium-containing oxide contains at least one crystal phase selected from the group consisting of Nb 2 TiO 7 , Nb 2 Ti 2 O 9 , Nb 10 Ti 2 O 29 , Nb 14 TiO 37 , and Nb 24 TiO 62 . 5 . The active material according to claim 1 , wherein the niobium-containing oxide is a monoclinic niobium-titanium composite oxide. 6 . The active material according to claim 1 , further comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of lithium titanate having a ramsdellite structure, lithium titanate having a spinel structure, monoclinic titanium dioxide, anatase titanium dioxide, rutile titanium dioxide, a hollandite titanium composite oxide, and an orthorhombic titanium-containing composite oxide. 7 . An electrode comprising the active material according to claim 1 . 8 . The electrode according to claim 7 , which satisfies the following formula (2): 0.01≤ n/N≤ 0.5  (2) wherein: N is a total number of particles in a 20 μm-square region of a surface of the electrode; and n is a number of single particles in the 20 μm-square region. 9 . The electrode according to claim 7 , wherein the electrode has an electrode density in a range of 2.3 g/cm 3 to 3 g/cm 3 . 10 . A secondary battery comprising a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte, wherein the positive electrode or the negative electrode is the electrode according to claim 7 . 11 . A battery pack comprising the secondary battery according to claim 10 . 12 . The battery pack according to claim 11 , further comprising: an external power distribution terminal; and a protective circuit. 13 . The battery pack according to claim 11 , wherein: the battery pack includes a plurality of the secondary battery; and the secondary batteries are electrically connected in series, in parallel, or in a combination of series and parallel. 14 . A vehicle comprising the battery pack according to claim 11 . 15 . The vehicle according to claim 14 , further comprising a mechanism configured to convert kinetic energy of the vehicle into regenerative energy.
