A lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide is provided. The lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide has a primary crystal phase formed of La2Mo2O9. The lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide also has a secondary crystal phase formed of a lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide species other than La2Mo2O9. The secondary crystal phase may contain at least one species selected from a group consisting of La2Mo3O12, La6MoO12, La7Mo7O30, La2Mo4O15, La2MoO6, La4MoO9, and LaMo2O5.

What is claimed: 1 . A lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide comprising a primary crystal phase formed of La 2 Mo 2 O 9 and a secondary crystal phase formed of a lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide species other than La 2 Mo 2 O 9 . 2 . The lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide according to claim 1 , wherein the secondary crystal phase contains at least one species selected from a group consisting of La 2 Mo 3 O 12 , La 6 MoO 12 , La 7 Mo 7 O 30 , La 2 Mo 4 O 15 , La 2 MoO 6 , La 4 MoO 9 , and LaMo 2 O 5 . 3 . The lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide according to claim 1 , wherein, in an X-ray diffraction spectrum obtained through powder X-ray diffractometry, a ratio (Y/X) of a diffraction peak intensity Y to a diffraction peak intensity X is less than 1, wherein X represents an intensity of the highest diffraction peak among the diffraction peaks which are attributed to the primary crystal phase and which do not overlap with the diffraction peaks attributed to the secondary crystal phase, and Y represents an intensity of the highest diffraction peak among the diffraction peaks which are attributed to the secondary crystal phase and which do not overlap with the diffraction peaks attributed to the primary crystal phase. 4 . An antibacterial sintered body formed through sintering of the lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide as recited in claim 1 . 5 . An antiviral sintered body formed through sintering of the lanthanum molybdenum composite oxide as recited in claim 1 .
