Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system for use with a bed having a frame and a supporting surface includes a sheet having a bottom surface placed above the supporting surface of the bed, a top surface, and a plurality of tether straps connected to and extending from the sheet. Each tether strap is configured for connection to the bed. The bottom surface is at least partially formed of a low friction material, and the top surface is at least partially formed of a high friction material, such that the top surface provides greater slipping resistance than the bottom surface. The tether straps include at least two pairs of tether straps, with one pair connected proximate a top edge of the sheet and another pair connected proximate a bottom edge of the sheet. The sheet may further include a sliding member on the bottom surface to assist in lateral sliding of the sheet.

1 - 25 . (canceled) 26 . A system for use with a bed having a supporting surface, the system comprising: a sheet having a bottom surface adapted to be placed above the supporting surface of the bed, and a top surface opposite the bottom surface, wherein the sheet comprises a first material forming at least a portion of the bottom surface and at least a portion of the top surface, the first material having a first coefficient of friction; the sheet further comprising a second material forming at least a portion of the top surface, the second material having a second coefficient of friction, different from the first coefficient of friction; and an absorbent pad for contacting the top surface of the sheet, wherein the absorbent pad contacts the second material to resist sliding of the absorbent pad. 27 . The system of claim 26 , wherein a coefficient of friction between the top surface of the sheet and the bottom surface of the absorbent pad is greater than a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the sheet and the supporting surface of the bed. 28 . The system of claim 26 , wherein the bottom of absorbent pad is adapted to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet. 29 . The system of claim 28 , wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad comprises a high friction substance or a surface treatment to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet 30 . The system of claim 26 , further comprising a wedge comprising a base wall, a ramp surface, and a back wall, the ramp surface being positioned at an angle to the base wall, wherein the wedge is configured to be positioned under the sheet such that the base wall confronts the supporting surface of the bed and the ramp surface confronts the bottom surface of the sheet. 31 . The system of claim 30 , further comprising a second wedge comprising a base wall, a ramp surface, and a back wall, the ramp surface being positioned at an angle to the base wall, wherein the wedge is configured to be positioned under the sheet such that the base wall confronts the supporting surface of the bed and the ramp surface confronts the bottom surface of the sheet. 32 . The system of claim 26 , further comprising at least one strap extending from the sheet. 33 . A system for use with a bed having a supporting surface, the system comprising: a sheet having a bottom surface adapted to be placed above the supporting surface of the bed, and a top surface opposite the bottom surface; and an absorbent pad having a bottom surface adapted to contact the top surface of the sheet, wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad is adapted to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet. 34 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad comprises a high friction substance to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet. 35 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad comprises surface treatment to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet. 36 . The system of claim 33 , wherein the sheet comprises a first material forming at least a portion of the bottom surface and a portion of the top surface, and a second material forming at least a second portion of the top surface of the sheet. 37 . The system of claim 33 , further comprising a wedge comprising a base wall, a ramp surface, and a back wall, the ramp surface being positioned at an angle to the base wall, wherein the wedge is configured to be positioned under the sheet such that the base wall confronts the supporting surface of the bed and the ramp surface confronts the bottom surface of the sheet. 38 . The system of claim 37 , further comprising a second wedge comprising a base wall, a ramp surface, and a back wall, the ramp surface being positioned at an angle to the base wall, wherein the wedge is configured to be positioned under the sheet such that the base wall confronts the supporting surface of the bed and the ramp surface confronts the bottom surface of the sheet. 39 . The system of claim 33 , further comprising at least one strap extending from the sheet. 40 . A system for use with a bed having a supporting surface, the system comprising: a sheet having a bottom surface adapted to be placed above the supporting surface of the bed, and a top surface opposite the bottom surface; an absorbent pad for contacting the top surface of the sheet; and at least one strap extending from the sheet; wherein a coefficient of friction between the top surface of the sheet and the bottom surface of the pad is greater than a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the sheet and the supporting surface of the bed. 41 . The system of claim 40 , wherein the sheet comprises a first material forming at least a portion of the bottom surface and a portion of the top surface, and a second material forming at least a second portion of the top surface of the sheet. 42 . The system of claim 40 , wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad is adapted to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet. 43 . The system of claim 42 , wherein the bottom surface of the absorbent pad comprises a high friction substance or a surface treatment to increase a coefficient of friction between the bottom surface of the absorbent pad and the top surface of the sheet 44 . The system of claim 40 , further comprising a wedge comprising a base wall, a ramp surface, and a back wall, the ramp surface being positioned at an angle to the base wall, wherein the wedge is configured to be positioned under the sheet such that the base wall confronts the supporting surface of the bed and the ramp surface confronts the bottom surface of the sheet. 45 . The system of claim 40 , wherein the at least one strap is configured for coupling the sheet to the bed.
