Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An armrest for a passenger seat has a forward end, an aft end opposite from the forward end, and a top surface extending from the forward end to the aft end. The top surface includes a first zone and a second zone, and a curvature of the first zone of the top surface is different from a curvature of the second zone of the top surface. In some examples, at least one of the first zone or the second zone has a concave curvature.

That which is claimed is: 1 . An armrest for a passenger seat, the armrest comprising: a forward end; an aft end opposite from the forward end; and a top surface extending from the forward end to the aft end, wherein the top surface comprises a first zone and a second zone, and wherein the first zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature. 2 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the second zone is between the first zone and the forward end of the armrest. 3 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein the second zone of the top surface is proximate to the forward end of the armrest, and wherein a width of the second zone of the top surface at the forward end is greater than a width of the first zone of the top surface. 4 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein the second zone of the top surface is planar. 5 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein the second zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature, and wherein the concave curvature of the first zone of the top surface is different from the concave curvature of the second zone of the top surface. 6 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein the armrest further comprises a first side extending between the forward end and the aft end and a second side opposite from the first side and extending between the forward end and the aft end, and wherein the first zone of the top surface has the concave curvature in a direction extending between the forward end and the aft end and in a direction extending between the first side and the second side. 7 . The armrest of claim 1 , wherein the armrest further comprises at least one forearm support pivotably coupled to the forward end of the armrest. 8 . An armrest for a passenger seat, the armrest comprising: a forward end; an aft end opposite from the forward end; and a top surface extending from the forward end to the aft end, wherein the top surface comprises a first zone and a second zone, and wherein a curvature of the first zone of the top surface is different from a curvature of the second zone of the top surface. 9 . The armrest of claim 8 , wherein at least a portion of the second zone of the top surface is between the first zone of the top surface and the forward end of the armrest. 10 . The armrest of claim 8 , wherein the first zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature and wherein the second zone of the top surface is planar. 11 . The armrest of claim 8 , wherein the second zone of the top surface is proximate to the forward end of the armrest, and wherein a width of the second zone of the top surface at the forward end is greater than a width of the first zone of the top surface. 12 . The armrest of claim 8 , wherein the armrest further comprises a first side extending between the forward end and the aft end and a second side opposite from the first side and extending between the forward end and the aft end, and wherein the first zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature in a direction extending between the forward end and the aft end and in a direction extending between the first side and the second side. 13 . The armrest of claim 8 , wherein the top surface of the armrest further comprises a third zone, and wherein a curvature of the third zone of the top surface is different from the curvature of the first zone of the top surface and different from the curvature of the second zone of the top surface. 14 . An armrest for a passenger seat, the armrest comprising: a first side; a second side opposite from the first side, wherein the first side and the second side define a length of the armrest, and wherein the length is greater than a width of the armrest; and a top surface extending between the first side and the second side, wherein the top surface comprises a first zone between the first side and the second side and a second zone between the first zone and the second side, and wherein a curvature of the first zone of the top surface is different from a curvature of the second zone of the top surface. 15 . The armrest of claim 14 , wherein the first zone of the top surface is planar and wherein the second zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature. 16 . The armrest of claim 14 , wherein the first zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature and wherein the second zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature. 17 . The armrest of claim 14 , wherein the armrest further comprises a forward end and an aft end opposite from the forward end, wherein the first side and the second side extend between the forward end and the aft end, and wherein at least a portion of the first zone of the top surface is between the second zone of the top surface and the forward end. 18 . The armrest of claim 17 , wherein a width of the second zone of the top surface at the forward end is greater than a width of the first zone of the top surface. 19 . The armrest of claim 17 , wherein the armrest further comprises at least one forearm support pivotably coupled to the forward end of the armrest. 20 . The armrest of claim 17 , wherein the second zone of the top surface comprises a concave curvature in a direction extending between the forward end and the aft end and in a direction extending between the first side and the second side.
