Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Methods and software that allow one or more users to utilize custom pricing in the context of an electronic marketplace. Such custom pricing can be implemented by transmitting specifications of custom pricing engines and/or custom design document interrogator engines to the marketplace along with or independently from one or more design documents containing structures to be priced. Various corresponding and related methods and software are described.

What is claimed is: 1 . A system for producing a price for fabricating a structure, the system comprising: a computing device, wherein the computing device is configured to: receive, from a user, a request for pricing; receive a computer-aided design (CAD) file representing a structure; perform a geometric analysis using an algorithm on the structure represented in the CAD file; produce a price for fabricating the structure based on the request for pricing and the geometric analysis; and transmit the price to the user 2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the price is a fixed cost. 3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the CAD file further comprises a CAD model representative of a structure to be fabricated. 4 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the CAD model comprises a three-dimensional (3D) CAD model. 5 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the CAD model is representative of a structure to be fabricated. 6 . The system of claim 1 , wherein producing the price for fabricating the structure further comprises producing the price using a custom pricing engine module. 7 . The system of claim 3 , wherein the geometric analysis is performed on the CAD model. 8 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the CAD file comprises a geometric data related to the structure. 9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the price is produced as a function of the geometric data. 10 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the price is produces as a function of a desired lead time. 11 . A method for producing a price for fabricating a structure, the method comprising: receiving, at a computing device, a request for pricing from a user; receiving, at the computing device, a computer-aided design (CAD) file representing a structure; performing, at the computing device, a geometric analysis using an algorithm on the structure represented in the CAD file; producing, at the computing device, a price for fabricating the structure based on the request for pricing and the geometric analysis; and transmitting, at the computing device, the price to the user 12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the price is a fixed cost. 13 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the CAD file further comprises a CAD model representative of a structure to be fabricated. 14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the CAD model comprises a three-dimensional (3D) CAD model. 15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the CAD model is representative of a structure to be fabricated. 16 . The method of claim 11 , wherein producing the price for fabricating the structure further comprises producing the price using a custom pricing engine module. 17 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the geometric analysis is performed on the CAD model. 18 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the CAD File comprises a geometric data related to the structure. 19 . The method of claim 18 , wherein the price is produced as a function of the geometric data. 20 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the price is produces as a function of a desired lead time.
