The drawing roll (5) has a drive shaft (6) to which a pulley (7) is mounted and over which the ragger rope passes to a cutter. At least one measuring instrument (14) is mounted with respect to the ragger to measure the quantity and direction of the force applied to the drawing roll by the ragger rope (3) as it is drawn out of the pulper (2). The ragger is part of a pulping system (1) having a pulper (2) for preparation of a fiber pulp suspension and a method for controlling reject handling in the pulping system (1) is provided.

I claim: 1 . An apparatus for removing a reject rope from a pulper in a pulping system, the apparatus comprising: a fixed frame; a bearing unit mounted to the frame; a drawing roll for drawing the rope from the pulper, wherein the drawing roll has a drive shaft with a pully mounted thereon, the pully being configured to engage with the rope for its extraction from the pulper, wherein the drive shaft is rotatably mounted to the bearing to have a portion which extends from the bearing and terminates at a free end which protrudes beyond the bearing, wherein the pully is supported on the drive shaft between the bearing and the free end; and at least one measuring instrument mounted to detect the bending of the drive shaft or the pulley, when the drawing roll is subjected to the forces of the ragger rope as it passes over the pulley from the pulper. 2 . The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least one measuring unit is fixed with respect to the frame so as to be spaced from the free end of the drive shaft, and wherein the at least one measuring unit is an instrument which measures the distance to the drive shaft or the pulley, such that the degree and direction of bending is determinable. 3 . The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the at least one measuring unit comprises at least one strain gauge mounted to the drive shaft to thereby measure the bending thereof. 4 . The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the at least one measuring instrument is an optical measuring instrument. 5 . The apparatus of claim 4 wherein the optical measuring instrument is a laser sensor. 6 . The apparatus of claim 1 wherein the bearing is arranged resiliently to the frame such that minor displacements in the position of the bearing and the drive shaft, and therefore in the position of the pulley, relative to the frame are allowed. 7 . The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: a drive mounted to the frame and engaged with the drive shaft to rotate the pulley at a selected speed to thereby advance the engaged rope from the pulper; and a controller in data-receiving relation to the at least one measuring instrument, and in controlling relation to the drive, wherein the controller is configured to adjust the selected speed in response to detected bending of the drive shaft to achieve a desired direction of bending of the drive shaft. 8 . The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising: a cutter positioned to engage the rope passing over the drawing roll, and operable to cut the rope to separate off a portion of the rope, thereby reducing weight of rope on one side of the drawing roll; and a control connection between the cutter and the controller, through which the controller is configured to operate cutter 10 in response to measurements detected by the at least one measurement instrument in response to detected bending of the drive shaft to achieve a desired direction of bending of the drive shaft. 9 .
