1 - 57 . (canceled) 58 . A multi-layer coating comprising: a first coating layer applied over at least a portion of a substrate, wherein the first coating layer is formed from a coating composition comprising 1,1-di-activated vinyl compound, or a multifunctional form thereof, or a combination thereof, wherein the 1, 1-di-activated vinyl compound comprises a methylene dicarbonyl compound, a dihalo vinyl compound, or a dihaloalkyl disubstituted vinyl compound, or a multifunctional form of any thereof, or a combination of any thereof, and a second coating layer applied over at least a portion of the first coating layer, wherein the second coating layer is formed from a coating composition comprising a polymeric resin and an acid curing catalyst. 59 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the 1,1-di-activated vinyl compound comprises: a dialkyl methylene malonate; a diaryl methylene malonate; a multifunctional form of a dialkyl methylene malonate; or a multifunctional form of a diaryl methylene malonate; or a combination of any thereof. 60 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the 1,1-di-activated vinyl compound comprises: diethyl methylene malonate; and a multifunctional form of diethyl methylene malonate comprising a transesterification adduct of diethyl methylene malonate and at least one polyol. 61 . The multi-layer coating of claim 60 , wherein the transesterification adduct of diethyl methylene malonate and at least one polyol comprises a transesterification adduct of diethyl methylene malonate and a diol. 62 . The multi-layer coating of claim 61 , wherein the diol comprises an alkane diol. 63 . The multi-layer coating of claim 62 , wherein the alkane diol comprises 1,5-pentane diol and/or 1,6-hexanediol. 64 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the first coating layer comprises a polymerization reaction product of the 1,1-di-activated vinyl compound, or a multifunctional form thereof, or a combination thereof. 65 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the polymeric resin comprises a carbamate-functional resin, an epoxy-functional resin, an amino-functional resin, a siloxane resin, a melamine resin, a phenolic resin, or a combination thereof. 66 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the polymeric resin comprises a carbamate-functional resin. 67 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the polymeric resin comprises a carbamate-functional acrylic resin. 68 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the polymeric resin comprises a carbamate-functional resin and a hydroxy-functional acrylic resin. 69 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the second coating layer further comprises a melamine-formaldehyde resin. 70 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , further comprising a third coating layer, wherein the first coating layer is applied over at least a portion of the third coating layer. 71 . The multi-layer coating of claim 58 , wherein the third coating layer is formed from a coating composition comprising an amine compound. 72 . The multi-layer coating of claim 71 , wherein the coating composition forming the third coating layer further comprises a polyester resin, an acrylic resin, and a melamine-formaldehyde resin. 73 . An article coated with the multi-layer coating of claim 58 . 74 . The article of claim 70 , wherein the article comprises vehicle components, components of free-standing structures, automotive substrates, industrial substrates, aircraft components, watercraft components, packaging substrates, aircraft components, watercraft components, packaging substrates, wood flooring, furniture, apparel, electronics, glass, transparencies, sports equipment, and/or appliances. 75 . A process for coating a substrate with the multi-layer coating of claim 58 , the process comprising: applying the first coating layer over at least a portion of the substrate; applying the second coating layer over at least a portion of the first coating layer; and curing the applied first coating layer and the applied second coating layer. 76 . A process for coating a substrate with the multi-layer coating of claim 70 , the process comprising: applying the third coating layer over at least a portion of the substrate; applying the first coating layer over at least a portion of the third coating layer; applying the second coating layer over at least a portion of the first coating layer; and curing the applied first coating layer, the applied second coating layer, and the applied third coating layer.
