Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A lift, a head support, and methods for use thereof for use with a surgical frame are provided. The lift and the head support can be used with the surgical frame that is capable of reconfiguration before, during, or after surgery. The surgical frame can include a main beam that can be rotated, raised/lowered, and tilted upwardly/downwardly to afford positioning and repositioning of a patient supported thereon, and the lift and the head support can be used in lifting the patient from a table/gurney and positioning the patient with respect to the main beam.

What is claimed is: 1 . A positioning frame, a lift portion, a harness portion, and a vest portion comprising: the positioning frame comprising: a first vertical support portion and a second vertical support portion, and a main beam having a first end, a second end, and a length extending between the first and second end, the first vertical support portion and the second vertical support portion supporting the main beam, the first support portion and the second vertical support portion spacing the main beam from the ground, the main beam being rotatable about an axis of rotation between at least a first rotational position and a second rotational position; the lift portion comprising: a first arm portion attached relative to the main beam and including at least a first portion extending outwardly from the main beam on at least a first side of the main beam, a second arm portion attached relative to the main beam and including a least a first portion extending outwardly from the main beam on at least a second side of the main beam, a first lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a first flexible connector operatively connected to the first lifting device, portions of the first flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the first portion of the first arm portion, and a second lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a second flexible connector operatively connected to the second lifting device, portions of the second flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the first portion of the second arm portion; the harness portion including a first portion and a second portion, the first portion of the harness portion being attached to the first flexible connector, and the second portion of the harness portion being attached to the second flexible connector; and the vest portion including a body portion having a first lateral side and a second lateral side, the first lateral side of the body portion being attached to the first portion of the harness portion, and the second lateral side of the body portion being attached to the second portion of the harness portion; wherein, when the patient is received on the body portion of the vest portion in a supine position, the patient can be lifted by the lift portion into position relative to the main beam of the positioning frame by the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion. 2 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 1 , wherein the first lifting device and the second lifting device of the lift portion are actuatable to respectively extend and retract the first flexible connector and the second flexible connector. 3 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 2 , wherein actuation of the first lifting device and the second lifting device lifts the patient received on the vest portion into position relative to the main beam of the positioning frame. 4 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 2 , wherein the first arm portion of the lift portion includes a second portion extending outwardly from the main beam on the second side thereof, and the second arm portion of the lift portion includes a second portion extending outwardly from the main beam on the first side thereof, and further comprising a third lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a third flexible connector operatively connected to the third lifting device, and a fourth lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a fourth flexible connector operatively connected to the fourth lifting device, portions of the third flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the second portion of the first arm portion, and portions of the fourth flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the second portion of the second arm portion. 5 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 4 , wherein the third flexible connector is connected to the second portion of the harness portion, and the fourth flexible connector is connected to the first portion of the harness portion, the third lifting device and the fourth lifting device being actuatable to respectively extend and retract the third flexible connector and the fourth flexible connector. 6 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 5 , wherein actuation of the first lifting device, the second lifting device, the third lifting device, and the fourth lifting device lifts the patient received on the vest portion into position relative to the main beam of the positioning frame. 7 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 6 , wherein the main beam includes support componentry attached thereto, and the patient can be lifted into position relative to the support componentry using the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion. 8 . The positioning frame, the lift portion, the harness portion, and the vest portion of claim 7 , wherein the support componentry includes at least one of a chest support, an upper leg support, and a lower leg support. 9 . A positioning frame, a lift, and a harness/vest comprising: the positioning frame comprising: a vertical support structure, and a main beam having a first end, a second end, and a length extending between the first and second end, the vertical support structure supporting the main beam, the vertical support structure spacing the main beam from the ground, the main beam being rotatable about an axis of rotation between at least a first rotational position and a second rotational position; the lift comprising: a first arm portion attached relative to the main beam and including at least a first portion extending outwardly from the main beam on at least a first side of the main beam, a second arm portion attached relative to the main beam and including a least a first portion extending outwardly from the main beam on at least a second side of the main beam, a first lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a first flexible connector operatively connected to the first lifting device, portions of the first flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the first portion of the first arm portion, and a second lifting device attached relative to the main beam and a second flexible connector operatively connected to the second lifting device, portions of the second flexible connector being spaced from the main beam by an end of the first portion of the second arm portion; the harness/vest including a vest portion, a first connecting portion attached to a first lateral side of the vest portion, and a second connecting portion attached to a second lateral side of the vest portion, the first connecting portion of the harness/vest being attached to the first flexible connector, and the second connecting portion of the harness/vest being attached to the second flexible connector; and wherein, when the patient is received on the vest portion in a supine position, the patient can be lifted by the lift into position relative to the main beam of the positioning frame by the lift and the harness/vest portion. 10 . The positioning frame, the lift, and the harness/vest of claim 9 , wherein the first lifting device and the second lifting device of the lift are actuatable to respectively extend and retract the first flexible connector and the second flexible connector. 11 . The positioning frame, the lift, and the harness/vest of cla
