An image reading apparatus includes a detection unit, a display unit, a conveyance control unit, and a reading unit. The detection unit detects that a document is placed on a document tray. When the detection unit detects that the document is placed on the document tray, the display unit displays an object related to setting of a thickness of the document if a predetermined function is not being performed. The conveyance control unit conveys the document based on information indicating the document thickness set via the object. The reading unit reads an image of the conveyed document.

What is claimed is: 1 . An image reading apparatus comprising: a detection unit configured to detect that a document is placed on a document tray; a display unit, wherein, when the detection unit detects that the document is placed on the document tray, the display unit is configured to display an object related to setting of a thickness of the document if a predetermined function is not being performed; a conveyance control unit configured to convey the document based on information indicating the document thickness set via the object; and a reading unit configured to read an image of the conveyed document. 2 . The image reading apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a first determination unit configured to determine whether a function that operates at a predetermined conveyance speed is being performed, wherein, when the detection unit detects that the document is placed on the document tray, the display unit displays the object related to the setting of the document thickness if the first determination unit determines that the function that operates at the predetermined conveyance speed is not being performed. 3 . The image reading apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising a first setting unit configured to set information indicating a predetermined document thickness if the first determination unit determines that the function that operates at the predetermined conveyance speed is being performed, wherein the conveyance control unit causes the document to be conveyed based on the information indicating the document thickness. 4 . The image reading apparatus according to claim 2 , further comprising a second determination unit configured to determine whether an accessibility function is being performed, wherein, when the detection unit detects that the document is placed on the document tray, the display unit displays the object related to the setting of the document thickness if (i) the first determination unit determines that the function that operates at the predetermined conveyance speed is not being performed and (ii) the second determination unit determines that the accessibility function is not being performed. 5 . The image reading apparatus according to claim 4 , further comprising a second setting unit configured to set information indicating a predetermined document thickness if the second determination unit determines that the accessibility function is being performed, wherein the conveyance control unit causes the document to be conveyed based on the information indicating the document thickness. 6 . A method for an image reading apparatus, the method comprising: detecting that a document is placed on a document tray; displaying, when the detecting includes detecting that the document is placed on the document tray, an object related to setting of a thickness of the document if a predetermined function is not being performed; conveying the document based on information indicating the document thickness set via the object; and reading an image of the conveyed document. 7 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing a program to cause a computer to perform a method for an image reading apparatus, the method comprising: detecting that a document is placed on a document tray; displaying, when the detecting includes detecting that the document is placed on the document tray, an object related to setting of a thickness of the document if a predetermined function is not being performed; conveying the document based on information indicating the document thickness set via the object; and reading an image of the conveyed document.
