Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A headlamp includes a strap and a front lighting assembly coupled to the strap. The front lighting assembly includes a front light housing at least partially enclosing a front light source. The headlamp also includes a rear lighting assembly coupled to the strap. The rear lighting assembly includes a rear light housing at least partially enclosing a rear light source. A light pipe extends from the rear light housing along the strap, and a length of the light pipe is configured to be illuminated by the rear light source. A wire extends along the strap between the front lighting assembly and the rear lighting assembly. The wire electrically connects the front lighting assembly and the rear lighting assembly.

What is claimed is: 1 . A headlamp comprising: a strap; a front lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the front lighting assembly including a front light housing at least partially enclosing a front light source; a rear lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the rear lighting assembly including a rear light housing at least partially enclosing a rear light source; a light pipe extending from the rear light housing along the strap, a length of the light pipe configured to be illuminated by the rear light source; and a wire extending along the strap between the front lighting assembly and the rear lighting assembly, wherein the wire electrically connects the front lighting assembly and the rear lighting assembly. 2 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the strap includes an elastic portion and an inelastic portion. 3 . The headlamp of claim 2 , wherein the wire includes a coil extending along the elastic portion, the coil configured to expand and contract in response to expansion and contraction of the elastic portion. 4 . The headlamp of claim 2 , wherein the strap includes reflective material on the inelastic portion of the strap. 5 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the light pipe is a first light pipe, and wherein the headlamp further comprises a second light pipe extending along the strap from the rear light housing in a direction opposite the first light pipe. 6 . The headlamp of claim 5 , wherein the first light pipe and the second light pipe are configured to glow in response to illumination of the rear light source. 7 . The headlamp of claim 5 , wherein the first light pipe and the second light pipe collectively extend along at least 20% of a circumference of the strap. 8 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the light pipe is configured to glow in response to illumination of the rear light source. 9 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the front light source includes a plurality of LEDs. 10 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the front light source includes at least one white LED, and wherein the rear light source includes at least one red LED. 11 . The headlamp of claim 1 , wherein the front lighting assembly includes a battery housing at least partially enclosing a battery, wherein the battery is configured to power the front light source, and wherein the battery is configured to power the rear light source via the wire. 12 . A headlamp comprising: a strap; a front lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the front lighting assembly including a front light housing at least partially enclosing a front light source; a rear lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the rear lighting assembly including a rear light housing at least partially enclosing a rear light source; and an illumination element configured to emit light received from the rear light source, wherein the illumination element extends along at least 20% of a circumference of the strap. 13 . The headlamp of claim 12 , wherein the illumination element includes a first light pipe and a second light pipe, the first light pipe and the second light pipe extending from the rear lighting assembly in opposite directions. 14 . The headlamp of claim 12 , further comprising a wire extending along the strap between the front lighting assembly and the rear lighting assembly. 15 . The headlamp of claim 14 , wherein the wire is configured to provide power from the front lighting assembly to the rear lighting assembly. 16 . The headlamp of claim 12 , wherein the illumination element extends along at least 25% of the circumference of the strap. 17 . A headlamp comprising: a strap; a front lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the front lighting assembly including a front light housing at least partially enclosing a front light source and a battery housing enclosing a battery, the battery configured to power the front light source; a rear lighting assembly coupled to the strap, the rear lighting assembly including a rear light housing at least partially enclosing a rear light source; a wire extending along the strap, the wire configured to provide power from the front lighting assembly to the rear lighting assembly to power the rear light source; and an illumination element extending along the strap, the illumination element configured to emit light received from the rear light source. 18 . The headlamp of claim 17 , wherein the front light source includes a spot light source and a flood light source. 19 . The headlamp of claim 18 , wherein the front light source is operable in a first plurality of modes, and wherein the rear light source is operable in a second plurality of modes. 20 . The headlamp of claim 19 , wherein the first plurality of modes includes: a first mode in which both the spot light source and the flood light source emit light, a second mode in which the spot light source does not emit light and the flood light source emits light at a high intensity, a third mode in which the spot light source does not emit light and the flood light source emits light at a medium intensity, a fourth mode in which the spot light source does not emit light and the flood light source emits light at a low intensity, and a fifth mode in which the spot light source emits light and the flood light source does not emit light.
