Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The present disclosure provides a control body adapted for use in an electronic smoking article. The control body includes a shell and a coupler that is adapted to connect the control body to a cartridge of an electronic smoking article. The coupler further is adapted to communicate a pressure reduction within the coupler to a pressure reduction space in the shell. Also positioned within the shell is an electronic circuit board having a pressure sensor attached thereto. The electronic circuit board can be positioned to be parallel to a central axis of the shell. A first end of the pressure sensor can be isolated within the pressure reduction space, and a second end of the pressure sensor can be in communication with a normal pressure space within the shell. One or more light emitting diodes can be attached to the electronic circuit board. At least a portion of the coupler can be light transmissive so that light from the LED is visible through the coupler.

1 .- 24 . (canceled) 25 . A control body for a smoking article, the control body comprising: an elongated shell with an interior, a proximal end, and an opposing distal end; a cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell, the cavity being defined at a first end by a wall and at a second end that is open and is configured to releasably engage a cartridge; a channel extending through the wall that provides fluid communication between the cavity and a portion of the interior of the elongated shell distal from the wall; an air inlet channel configured to distribute air through the smoking article, the air inlet channel being in communication with both of the cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell and the channel extending through the wall; and an electronic circuit board. 26 . The control body of claim 25 , further comprising an electrical power source within the interior of the elongated shell. 27 . The control body of claim 25 , further comprising at least one light emitting diode (LED). 28 . The control body of claim 25 , further comprising at least one electrical extension that extends from the electronic circuit board and is configured to provide electrical connection between the electronic circuit board and the cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell. 29 . The control body of claim 25 , wherein the elongated shell includes a space configured to remain substantially at ambient pressure during use of the control body and a space configured to have a pressure reduction during use of the control body. 30 . The control body of claim 25 , wherein the cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell is at least partially separated from a further portion of the interior of the elongated shell by a sealing member. 31 . The control body of claim 30 , wherein the sealing member is in physical contact with an inner surface of the elongated shell. 32 . The control body of claim 25 , further comprising an input element. 33 . The control body of claim 32 , wherein the input element is a pushbutton. 34 . The control body of claim 33 , wherein the pushbutton is at least partially light transmissive. 35 . The control body of claim 33 , wherein the pushbutton is adapted to activate power delivery from a power source in the control body to a heater. 36 . The control body of claim 33 , wherein the pushbutton is configured to provide one or more inputs to a control circuit, which in turn transmits an input to a light emitting diode (LED). 37 . A smoking article comprising a control body according to claim 25 , and further comprising a disposable cartridge. 38 . The smoking article of claim 37 , wherein the disposable cartridge is configured to releasably engage the cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell of the control body via a press-fit or an interference fit engagement. 39 . The smoking article of claim 37 , wherein the disposable cartridge includes tobacco or a tobacco derived component. 40 . The smoking article of claim 37 , wherein the disposable cartridge includes an aerosol precursor composition. 41 . The smoking article of claim 40 , wherein, when the disposable cartridge is engaging the cavity present at the proximal end of the elongated shell of the control body, a heater is in contact with the aerosol precursor composition. 42 . A control body for an electronic smoking article, the control body comprising: an elongated shell with an interior, a proximal end, and an opposing distal end; a coupler formed of an elongated body having a first end that forms a wall and that engages the proximal end of the shell and a second end that comprises a cavity configured to releasably engage a cartridge, wherein the coupler includes a pressure channel extending between a first end that is in fluid communication with the cavity and a second end that opens through the wall at the first end of the coupler; an air inlet channel in fluid communication with the cavity; and an electronic circuit board.
