Official abstract text for this publication.
A pillow is provided herein which includes a cover having opposing first and second panels. A gusset perimetrically bounds, and joins, the first and second panels. The gusset is formed of an open cell construction. Compliant fill material is disposed within the cover. Advantageously, with the subject invention, a pillow is provided allowing for lateral ventilation between opposing panels. This permits a cooling effect while a user is resting or sleeping.

1 - 13 . (canceled) 14 . A pillow comprising: a cover having opposing first and second panels and a gusset joining the first panel with the second panel; an inner cover disposed within the cover; and a fill material disposed within the inner cover, wherein the gusset has a first porosity, at least one of the panels has a second porosity and the inner cover has a third porosity, the second porosity being greater than the third porosity. 15 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the second porosity is different than the first porosity and the third porosity. 16 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the third porosity is different than the first porosity. 17 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the first porosity is greater than the second porosity. 18 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the inner cover acts as a barrier against air flow into the fill material. 19 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the inner cover reduces heat transfer by air flow into the fill material. 20 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the pillow is configured to have air enter the pillow through one of the panels such that the air moves along the inner cover and exits the pillow through the gusset. 21 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the pillow permits air exchange about the inner cover such that air can enter the pillow through one of the panels and exit the pillow through the gusset. 22 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the gusset includes at least two materials selected from the group consisting of (a) a material formed by strands defining a mesh, (b) a material having a base material with apertures larger in size than any pores that may be inherently defined in the base material, (c) and a material having an inherently porous base material. 23 . A pillow as recited in claim 22 , wherein the at least two materials include the material formed by strands defining the mesh and the material having the inherently porous base material. 24 . A pillow as recited in claim 23 , wherein the material having an inherently porous base material is 3D spacer fabric. 25 . A pillow as recited in claim 14 , wherein the gusset includes a mesh material and 3D spacer fabric. 26 . A pillow comprising: a cover having opposing first and second panels and a gusset joining the first panel with the second panel; an inner cover disposed within the cover; and a fill material disposed within the inner cover, wherein the gusset has a porosity that is greater than a porosity of the panels and the inner cover has a porosity that is less than the porosity of the panels. 27 . A pillow as recited in claim 26 , wherein the inner cover acts as a barrier against air flow into the fill material. 28 . A pillow as recited in claim 26 , wherein the inner cover reduces heat transfer by air flow into the fill material. 29 . A pillow as recited in claim 26 , wherein the pillow is configured to have air enter the pillow through one of the panels such that the air moves along the inner cover and exits the pillow through the gusset. 30 . A pillow as recited in claim 26 , wherein the pillow permits air exchange about the inner cover such that air can enter the pillow through one of the panels and exit the pillow through the gusset. 31 . A pillow as recited in claim 26 , wherein the gusset includes at least two materials selected from the group consisting of (a) a material formed by strands defining a mesh, (b) a material having a base material with apertures larger in size than any pores that may be inherently defined in the base material, (c) and a material having an inherently porous base material. 32 . A pillow as recited in claim 31 , wherein the at least two materials include the material formed by strands defining the mesh and the material having the inherently porous base material. 33 . A pillow as recited in claim 31 , wherein the gusset includes a mesh material and 30 spacer fabric. 34 . A pillow comprising: a cover having opposing first and second panels and a gusset joining the first panel with the second panel; an inner cover disposed within the cover; and a fill material disposed within the inner cover, wherein the gusset has a porosity that is greater than a porosity of the panels and the inner cover has a porosity that is less than the porosity of the panels, wherein the gusset includes a mesh material and 3D spacer fabric, and wherein the pillow is configured to have air enter the pillow through one of the panels such that the air moves along the inner cover and exits the pillow through the gusset.
