Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An auxiliary handle can be used with a power tool having a housing that includes a first notch and a second notch. The auxiliary handle includes a shaft, a first clamp coupled to the shaft and having a first protrusion configured to engage the first notch, a second clamp arranged on the shaft and having a second protrusion configured to engage the second notch, and a grip coupled to the shaft. When the first protrusion of the first clamp engages the first notch and the grip is rotated relative to the second clamp, the second clamp is moved toward the first clamp, such that the first protrusion engages the first notch and the second protrusion engages the second notch to couple the auxiliary handle to the housing of the power tool.

1 . An auxiliary handle for use with a power tool having a housing that includes a first notch and a second notch, the auxiliary handle comprising: a shaft; a first clamp coupled to the shaft and having a first protrusion configured to engage the first notch; a second clamp arranged on the shaft and having a second protrusion configured to engage the second notch; and a grip coupled to the shaft, wherein when the first protrusion of the first clamp engages the first notch and the grip is rotated relative to the second clamp, the second clamp is moved toward the first clamp, such that the first protrusion engages the first notch and the second protrusion engages the second notch to couple the auxiliary handle to the housing of the power tool. 2 . The auxiliary handle of claim 1 , wherein the first clamp includes a first body portion and a first leg portion extending from the body portion, the first leg portion including the first protrusion. 3 . The auxiliary handle of claim 2 , wherein the first body portion includes a first passageway through which the shaft extends. 4 . The auxiliary handle of claim 2 , wherein the second clamp includes a second body portion and a second leg portion extending from the body portion, the second leg portion including the second protrusion. 5 . The auxiliary handle of claim 4 , wherein the second body portion includes a second passageway through which the shaft extends. 6 . An auxiliary handle for use with a power tool having a housing that includes a first notch and a second notch, the auxiliary handle comprising: a shaft; a first clamp arranged on the shaft and having a first protrusion configured to engage the first notch; a second clamp arranged on the shaft and having a second protrusion configured to engage the second notch; and a grip coupled to the shaft, wherein in response to rotation of the grip relative to the first and second clamps, the first and second clamps are moved toward each other, such that the first protrusion can engage the first notch and the second protrusion can engage the second notch to couple the auxiliary handle to the housing of the power tool. 7 . The auxiliary handle of claim 6 , wherein the first clamp includes a first body portion and a first leg portion extending from the body portion, the first leg portion including the first protrusion. 8 . The auxiliary handle of claim 7 , wherein the first body portion includes a first passageway through which the shaft extends. 9 . The auxiliary handle of claim 7 , wherein the second damp includes a second body portion and a second leg portion extending from the body portion, the second leg portion including the second protrusion. 10 . The auxiliary handle of claim 9 , wherein the first body portion includes a first passageway through Which the shaft extends. 11 . The auxiliary handle of claim 10 , wherein the second body portion includes a second passageway through which the shaft extends. 12 . An auxiliary handle for use with a power tool having a housing that includes a first notch and a second notch, the auxiliary handle comprising: a shaft; a first clamp arranged on the shaft and having a first protrusion configured to engage the first notch, the first clamp movable along the shaft between a first position in which the first protrusion engages the first notch, and a second position in which the first protrusion does not engage the first notch; a second clamp arranged on the shaft and having a second protrusion configured to engage the second notch, the second clamp movable between a first position in which the second protrusion engages the second notch, and a second position in which the second protrusion does not engage the second notch; and a grip coupled to the shaft, wherein in response to rotation of the grip relative to the first and second clamps, the first and second clamps are respectively moved to their first positions, such that the handle is coupled to the housing of the power tool. 13 . The auxiliary handle of claim 12 , wherein the first clamp includes a first body portion and a first leg portion extending from the body portion, the first leg portion including the first protrusion. 14 . The auxiliary handle of claim 13 , wherein the first body portion includes a first passageway through which the shaft extends. 15 . The auxiliary handle of claim 13 , wherein the second clamp includes a second body portion and a second leg portion extending from the body portion, the second leg portion including the second protrusion. 16 . The auxiliary handle of claim 14 , wherein the first body portion includes a first passageway through which the shaft extends. 17 . The auxiliary handle of claim 16 , wherein the second body portion includes a second passageway through which the shaft extends. 18 . A power tool assembly comprising: a power tool having a housing that includes a first notch and a second notch; and an auxiliary handle including a shaft, a first clamp arranged on the shaft and having a first protrusion configured to engage the first notch, a second clamp arranged on the shaft and having a second protrusion configured to engage the second notch, and a grip coupled to the shaft, wherein rotation of the grip relative to the first and second clamps causes movement of the first and second clamps toward each other, such that the first protrusion engages the first notch and the second protrusion engages the second notch to couple the auxiliary handle to the housing of the power tool. 19 . The power tool assembly of claim 18 , wherein the housing further includes a first pair of nose portions arranged adjacent the first notch, the first pair of nose portions inhibiting the first protrusion from disengaging from the first notch when the first protrusion is engaged with the first notch. 20 . The power tool assembly of claim 19 , wherein the housing further includes a second pair of nose portions arranged adjacent the second notch, the second pair of nose portions inhibiting the second protrusion from disengaging from the second notch when the second protrusion is engaged with the second notch. 21 . The power tool assembly of claim 18 , wherein the housing is a gear casing of the power tool. 22 . The power tool of claim 21 , wherein the first and second notches are formed in an upper portion of the gear casing. 23 .
