Official abstract text for this publication.
Methods, systems, and media for facilitating user engagement in offline transactions are disclosed. In one example, a method includes listing items for sale, at online prices, in an online publication system. A real-world environment is provided that includes a display, at offline prices, of physically retrievable items corresponding to the items listed for sale in the online publication system. A proximity or location of a user device relative to the real-world environment is detected, and a reduction is applied to an offline price of an item based on the detected proximity or location of the user. The applied reduction reduces the offline price to a price lower than the online price for the corresponding online item listed for sale in the online publication system. The presence of the user device is detected within the real-world environment and a purchase transaction for the item is validated and completed.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method for facilitating user engagement in offline transactions, the method comprising: listing items for sale, at online prices, in an online publication system; providing a real-world environment and including a display, at offline prices, of physically retrievable items available for immediate purchase and possession, at least some of the physically retrievable items corresponding to the items listed for sale in the online publication system; detecting a proximity or location of a user device relative to the real-world environment; applying a reduction to an offline price of an item based on the detected proximity or location of the user, the applied reduction reducing the offline price to a price lower than the online price for the corresponding online item listed for sale in the online publication system; communicating the reduced offline price of the item to the user device; detecting the presence of the user device within the real-world environment; and validating and completing a purchase transaction for the item based on an authentication of the user and the communicated reduced price. 2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising applying the reduction to the offline price in proportion to the detected proximity or location of the user relative to the real-world environment. 3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying the detected user by facial recognition, and storing a first user identification based on the facial recognition; identifying a spoken communication by the user and capturing speech data based on the identified spoken communication; extracting from or identifying in the speech data: data relating to a purchase request for the reduced-price item and automatically implementing the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device; and conversational data unrelated to the purchase request, and comparing the conversational data against a voiceprint of the user to assist in the user authentication. 4 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising extracting from, or identifying in, the speech data an authorization from the user to implement the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device. 5 . The method of claim 3 , further comprising recycling the conversational data into a voice recognition component to improve an accuracy of the voiceprint of the user. 6 . A system comprising: at least one processor; and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the classification system to perform operations comprising, at least: listing items for sale, at online prices, in an online publication system; providing a real-world environment and including a display, at offline prices, of physically retrievable items available for immediate purchase and possession, at least some of the physically retrievable items corresponding to the items listed for sale in the online publication system; detecting a proximity or location of a user device relative to the real-world environment; applying a reduction to an offline price of an item based on the detected proximity or location of the user, the applied reduction reducing the offline price to a price lower than the online price for the corresponding online item listed for sale in the online publication system; communicating the reduced offline price of the item to the user device; detecting the presence of the user device within the real-world environment; and validating and completing a purchase transaction for the item based on an authentication of the user and the communicated reduced price. 7 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise applying the reduction to the offline price in proportion to the detected proximity or location of the user relative to the real-world environment. 8 . The system of claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise: identifying the detected user by facial recognition, and storing a first user identification based on the facial recognition; identifying a spoken communication by the user and capturing speech data based on the identified spoken communication; extracting from or identifying in the speech data: data relating to a purchase request for the reduced-price item and automatically implementing the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device; and conversational data unrelated to the purchase request, and comparing the conversational data against a voiceprint of the user to assist in the user authentication, 9 . The system of claim 8 , wherein the operations further comprise extracting from, or identifying in, the speech data an authorization from the user to implement the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device. 10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise recycling the conversational data into a voice recognition component to improve an accuracy of the voiceprint of the user. 11 . A machine-readable medium containing instructions which, when read by a machine, cause the machine to perform operations comprising, at least: listing items for sale, at online prices, in an online publication system; providing a real-world environment and including a display, at offline prices, of physically retrievable items available for immediate purchase and possession, at least some of the physically retrievable items corresponding to the items listed for sale in the online publication system; detecting a proximity or location of a user device relative to the real-world environment; applying a reduction to an offline price of an item based on the detected proximity or location of the user, the applied reduction reducing the offline price to a price lower than the online price for the corresponding online item listed for sale in the online publication system; communicating the reduced offline price of the item to the user device; detecting the presence of the user device within the real-world environment; and validating and completing a purchase transaction for the item based on an authentication of the user and the communicated reduced price. 12 . The medium of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise applying the reduction to the offline price in proportion to the detected proximity or location of the user relative to the real-world environment. 13 . The medium of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise: identifying the detected user by facial recognition, and storing a first user identification based on the facial recognition; identifying a spoken communication by the user and capturing speech data based on the identified spoken communication; extracting from or identifying in the speech data: data relating to a purchase request for the reduced-price item and automatically implementing the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device; and conversational data unrelated to the purchase request, and comparing the conversational data against a voiceprint of the user to assist in the user authentication. 14 . The medium of claim 13 , wherein the operations further comprise extracting from, or identifying in, the speech data an authorization from the user to implement the purchase transaction without manual operation of the user device. 15 . The medium of claim 14 , wherein the operations further comprise recycling the conversational data into a voice recognition component to improve an accuracy of the voiceprint of the user.
