Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Propagation of a wireless signal is facilitated and brokered through a wireless network, and the signal is delivered by an appropriate method to an intended receiving wireless terminal. A single network element acts as a signal entry point and executes parallel processes to determine the location of an intended receiving wireless terminal and the registration thereof within the wireless network, the signal type, and the capabilities of the terminal. The network element then analyzes this information to determine the best method of signal propagation through the wireless network so as to ensure signal delivery to the wireless terminal or alternate delivery according to subscriber-set preferences.

What is claimed is: 1 . A method, comprising: in response to receiving, from a source device, a voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication comprising message content directed to a wireless device corresponding to a wireless network, determining, by a system comprising a processor, whether the wireless device is capable of receiving the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication; in response to the wireless device being determined not to be capable of the receiving of the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication, redirecting, by the system, the message content to the wireless device using an alternative delivery option to facilitate delivery of the message content; and in response to the wireless device being determined to be capable of the receiving of the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication, sending, by the system via a wireless control channel, an instruction directed to the wireless device to initiate the wireless device to send, to the system, a request for a temporary Internet protocol address. 2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the alternate delivery option comprises sending a voice-mail comprising the message content directed to the wireless device. 3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the alternate delivery option comprises sending an email comprising the message content directed to the wireless device. 4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the redirecting comprises sending, directed to the source device, a status message describing the redirecting of the message content. 5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising, prior to the sending of the instruction, querying a wireless network device to locate the wireless device. 6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the redirecting comprises determining that an Internet protocol address has not been assigned to the wireless device. 7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the redirecting comprises querying a data storage device storing network wireless terminal capabilities. 8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: in response to the wireless device being determined not to be communicatively coupled to a network device of the wireless network, sending a non-delivery message directed to the source device. 9 . A system, comprising: a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising: receiving, from a sending device, a voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication comprising message content directed to a wireless device; in response to determining that the wireless device is not capable of receiving the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication, redirecting the message content to the wireless device using an alternative delivery option to facilitate delivery of the message content; and in response to determining that the wireless device is capable of the receiving the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication, sending an instruction directed to the wireless device to cause the wireless device to send, to the system, a request for an Internet protocol address that is valid for a limited time. 10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the redirecting comprises sending a voice-mail comprising the message content directed to a recipient associated with the wireless device. 11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the redirecting comprises sending an email comprising the message content directed to an addressee associated with the wireless device. 12 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the redirecting comprises sending a non-delivery message directed to a recipient associated with the wireless device. 13 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the operations further comprise: sending a query to a wireless network device to locate the wireless device. 14 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the determining that the wireless device is capable of the receiving the voice over Internet protocol based wireless communication comprises determining that the Internet protocol address has not been assigned to the wireless device. 15 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the redirecting comprises querying a data storage device storing network wireless terminal capabilities. 16 . A machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising: receiving an Internet protocol-based communication comprising message content associated with a call that has been directed, from a source device, to a device of a wireless system; in response to determining that the device is not capable of receiving the Internet protocol-based communication, redirecting the Internet protocol-based communication to the device using an alternate delivery option to facilitate delivery of the message content; and in response to determining that the device is capable of the receiving the Internet protocol-based communication, instructing, via an instruction directed to the device, the device to send a request for an Internet protocol address that expires. 17 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the redirecting comprises sending an email comprising the message content directed to an addressee associated with the device. 18 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructing comprises determining that no Internet protocol address has been assigned to the device. 19 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructing comprises querying a data storage device storing device capabilities. 20 . The machine-readable storage medium of claim 16 , wherein the instructing comprises querying a wireless device to assist with a determination of a location of the device.
