Official abstract text for this publication.
A catheter ( 20 ), which can be part of an intravascular blood pump, possesses a kink sensor which extends over the total length of the catheter and comprises an optical fiber ( 28 A). The optical fiber is attached to an evaluation device ( 100 ) which evaluates a preset light quantity transmitted through the optical fiber as to whether a part of the light quantity is coupled out of the optical fiber along the length of the optical fiber. This is interpreted as a kink event and displayed. The optical fiber preferably utilized for the kink sensor is the optical fiber of an optical pressure sensor.

1 - 15 . (canceled) 16 . A system comprising a catheter having a kink sensor, the kink sensor comprising at least one optical fiber having segments with different light-transmitting properties. 17 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the kink sensor extends over the total length of the catheter, and wherein the kink sensor is arranged for detecting a kinking of the catheter over the total length of the catheter. 18 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the optical fiber comprises a glass fiber and possesses a diameter of 120 μm or less. 19 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the optical fiber comprises a plastic fiber and possesses a diameter of 250 μm or less. 20 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the optical fiber is part of an optical pressure sensor. 21 . The system according to claim 20 , wherein the pressure sensor has a sensor head, the sensor head being disposed on a distal, soft-flexible tip of the catheter. 22 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the optical fiber of the catheter is attached to an evaluation device, the evaluation device arranged for evaluating a preset light quantity transmitted through the optical fiber to determine whether a part of the light quantity is coupled out of the optical fiber along the length of the optical fiber. 23 . The system according to claim 22 , wherein the evaluation device is arranged for generating an alarm when the coupled-out part of the light quantity reaches or exceeds a preset limiting value. 24 . The system according to claim 16 , wherein the system is part of an intravascular blood pump. 25 . A system comprising a catheter having a kink sensor, the kink sensor comprising a plurality of optical fibers of different length. 26 . The system according to claim 25 , wherein the optical fiber is part of an optical pressure sensor. 27 . The system according to claim 25 , wherein the optical fiber of the catheter is attached to an evaluation device which is arranged for evaluating a preset light quantity transmitted through the optical fiber as to whether a part of the light quantity is coupled out of the optical fiber along the length of the optical fiber. 28 . The system according to claim 25 , wherein the system is part of an intravascular blood pump. 29 . A system comprising a catheter having a kink sensor, the kink sensor comprising at least one optical fiber laid freely movably in a lumen, the lumen comprising a material comprising a shape-memory alloy. 30 . The system according to claim 29 , wherein the optical fiber is part of an optical pressure sensor. 31 . The system according to claim 29 , wherein the optical fiber of the catheter is attached to an evaluation device, the evaluation device being arranged for evaluating a preset light quantity transmitted through the optical fiber to determine whether a part of the light quantity is coupled out of the optical fiber along the length of the optical fiber. 32 . The system according to claim 29 , wherein the system is part of an intravascular blood pump. 33 . A system comprising a catheter having a kink sensor, the kink sensor comprising at least one optical fiber laid freely movably in a lumen, the lumen comprising a polymer material which is anti-friction-coated on the inside. 34 . The system according to claim 33 , wherein the optical fiber is part of an optical pressure sensor. 35 . The system according to claim 33 , wherein the pressure sensor has a sensor head which is disposed on a distal, soft-flexible tip of the catheter. 36 .
