Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An electrode for a redox flow battery including a porous body formed of a carbon material, wherein the (002) plane of the carbon material has an interlayer distance in the range of 3.354 to 3.452 angstroms as measured by X-ray diffraction. The electrode for a redox flow battery is preferably an electrode for a redox flow battery in which the oxygen content derived from carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide ranges from 1 to 100 μmol/g as measured by temperature programmed desorption/mass spectrometry.

1 . An electrode for a redox flow battery comprising: a porous body consisting of a carbon material, wherein a (002) plane of the carbon material has an interlayer distance in the range of 3.354 to 3.452 angstroms as measured by X-ray diffraction. 2 . The electrode for a redox flow battery according to claim 1 , for use in a redox flow battery system including a positive electrode electrolyte containing at least one type of ions selected from chloride ions, manganese ions, bromine ions, and cerium ions. 3 . The electrode for a redox flow battery according to claim 1 , wherein an oxygen content derived from carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide ranges from 1 to 100 μmol/g as measured by temperature programmed desorption/mass spectrometry. 4 . A redox flow battery system comprising: a positive electrode; a negative electrode; a positive electrode electrolyte to be supplied to the positive electrode; and a negative electrode electrolyte to be supplied to the negative electrode, wherein the positive electrode is the electrode for a redox flow battery according to claim 1 , and the positive electrode electrolyte contains at least one type of ions selected from chloride ions, manganese ions, bromine ions, and cerium ions. 5 . The redox flow battery system according to claim 4 , wherein the positive electrode electrolyte contains manganese ions. 6 . The redox flow battery system according to claim 5 , wherein the negative electrode electrolyte contains titanium ions.
